Chapter 2
Chapter 2
Pei Shaoye was arrogant and untamable, a notorious second-generation rich playboy in his circle.
Yet he simply never dated.
That day, after I kissed him, I just left, leaving him standing there rooted to the spot.
On the third day, he finally came home.
Unlike usual, he was unusually silent this time.
Only one lamp was on in the living room; he hadn’t expected to find me sitting on the sofa.
Pei Shaoye froze.
“Middle of the night, not sleeping-sitting here trying to be a ghost?”
“Got thirsty. Came down for water.”
“Young master, you’re finally back.”
The butler appeared right on cue. “Miss Shi had been waiting for you every night these past few days.”
“Every night?”
“Yes.”
In a matter-of-fact manner, the butler handed me a card. “President Pei is tied up on a business trip and said that disciplining the young master must take a lot of effort. This is extra for you.”
I thought about it and took the card.
After the butler left, Pei Shaoye eyed me with suspicion.
I glanced his way.
He immediately averted his gaze.
A few seconds later, his eyes were back on me.
“Shi Miao, don’t tell me you like me? My dad told you to keep me in line, yet you up and kissed me. Never thought a girl as well-behaved as you would have such nerve.”
Pei Shaoye drawled the words.
“But don’t think you can control me. Even if every other woman on earth dropped dead, I still wouldn’t fall for you.”
Wouldn’t fall for me.
I rubbed the card between my fingers, my mind already tallying up what to buy.
A leather whip? Handcuffs? Rope?
The hickey on his neck had faded; I should leave some fresh marks.
Pei Shaoye was still talking. “You’d better give up.”
How I wanted to gag him.
I blinked.
“Where did you go that day, after I kissed you?”
Pei Shaoye suddenly stopped speaking, the tips of his ears turning a telltale red.
He stammered…
“Kept partying, of course.”
“Never partied that hard before, have you?” I mused.
Pei Shaoye froze solid, then pushed me away impatiently. “I’m going to bed.”
Sunday.
I stayed at the library until two in the morning.
Finally finished the competition assignment my advisor had assigned.
When I got back, Pei Shaoye was on the observation deck, hosting an open-air party.
I went through my nightly routine and prepared for bed, but couldn’t sleep because of the racket upstairs.
Normally, whenever Uncle Pei was away, Pei Shaoye would throw parties too, but never this loud.
Left with no choice, I went upstairs to ask them to quiet down.
Upstairs, the wind was blowing and clouds hid the moon. Pei Shaoye was holding a guitar, his fingers nimble.
The moment he saw me, the blaring music cut off.
“Who are you trying to seduce, dressed like that?” Pei Shaoye demanded, his voice hard.
Someone’s jeering voice rang out loudly.
“Brother Pei, long-sleeved pajamas-who’d be seduced by that? Hahaha, you blind or what?”
“Shut up.”
Pei Shaoye’s expression was dark.
“What do you want?”
“It’s too noisy. Keep it down, I need to rest.”
“Rest?”
Pei Shaoye tossed the guitar aside.
“You only came back at two in the morning. Some good girl’s routine you’ve got-not so regular, is it?”
So he really was making noise on purpose to get back at me for coming home late.
“Oh, Pei Shaoye, why be so harsh to a girl? Xiao Miao, come play with us.”
The speaker was Song Zhiyi, the eldest daughter of the Song family.
She’d had a crush on Pei Shaoye for a long time.
I was a little curious what she wanted by insisting I stay.
Since we weren’t at a bar, this group just drank some beer and played spin the bottle.
The mouth of the bottle aimed itself at Pei Shaoye.
Someone piped up: “Still got your first kiss or not?”
“Let’s skip that. Brother Pei doesn’t date-of course his first kiss is still there.”
“Oh, but someone here really wants to know the answer, you know.”
Song Zhiyi stole a shy glance at Pei Shaoye.
Pei Shaoye’s gaze swept over me once.
He cleared his throat softly. “Gone.”
His buddy’s eyes bugged out and Song Zhiyi’s face fell.
“Whoa, don’t tell me it was-” Someone wiggled their eyebrows and threw a meaningful look at Song Zhiyi.
She dropped into a coy act. “Oh, stop it, you guys.”
“She’s blushing, she’s blushing! Brother Pei, come on, spill the details.”
Pei Shaoye looked at me and said nothing to contradict the assumption.
He just raised an eyebrow. “I forced the kiss. The person blushed crimson, even their legs went weak.”
Every word out of Pei Shaoye’s mouth made Song Zhiyi’s face darken another shade.
But that didn’t stop her from pressing closer to him.
And Pei Shaoye didn’t push her away, letting everyone jump to conclusions.
He even tilted his lips at me smoothly.
I toyed with my phone; the display showed my online order had been signed for.
It was time to put them to use.
“Keep drinking. I’m tired.”
“No way, Little Sister Shi Miao, the bottle’s pointing at you now. Same question-answer before you leave.”
I didn’t turn around. “Seventeen.”
“What’s that supposed to mean?”
“That’s when I lost my first kiss, duh.”
“Whoa, the good girl had a puppy romance. Scandalous!”
As I turned to go downstairs,
the smug look on Pei Shaoye’s face had frozen solid, the smile on his lips utterly gone.
