Chapter 6
Chapter 6
At four in the afternoon, Zhou Yan tried to log in to the contract system.
System notification: Access has been frozen.
He called the IT department. No one dared to pick up.
In the end, he stormed into the server room and demanded that the technical supervisor restore his access on the spot.
By the time I arrived, he was slamming his hand on the desk. “I’m the vice president! The company hasn’t been dissolved yet. I have the right to look at the contracts!”
The technical supervisor was sweating bullets. “Mr. Zhou, the freeze order came from the group’s legal department. I really can’t change it.”
When Zhou Yan saw me, his eyes looked like they were about to spit fire.
“Lin Jianwei, you’re even guarding this against me?”
“What I’m guarding against is the transfer of company data,” I said. “If you just want to review handover documents, you can go through the approval process.”
He sneered. “Approval through you?”
“Through Legal.”
He reached out to snatch the technical supervisor’s computer.
I stepped sideways and blocked him.
His hand lifted halfway, then suddenly stopped.
Yesterday’s slap had taught him a lesson.
I lowered my voice. “Lay a hand on me again, and it won’t be as simple as a divorce agreement.”
Zhou Yan’s chest heaved violently.
Xu Nianchu ran over and grabbed him. “Don’t fight with her because of me.”
I looked at her. “What does this have to do with you this time?”
Her eyes reddened. “I just feel bad for Zhou Yan. He’s given so much to the company, and in the end, you’re treating him like a thief.”
I nodded. “Well said.”
I turned to the technical supervisor. “Send Legal the abnormal download records from last night until now.”
The technical supervisor immediately opened the backend.
The screen showed that at 1:47 a.m., someone had used Xu Nianchu’s intern account to bulk-download the bidding materials for the Qingqiong Project.
It was Xinglan’s most valuable project.
It was also the fuse that had led Yuansheng to pull its investment.
Xu Nianchu’s face went so pale it was almost transparent.
Zhou Yan froze. “Nianchu?”
She immediately shook her head. “It wasn’t me! My account was just activated. Anyone could have known the password.”
I said, “The login location was your apartment’s Wi-Fi. The device name was Nianchu-Mac.”
Her lips trembled. “I… I just wanted to study.”
“Then why did you download encrypted quotations at one in the morning?”
She had no answer.
Yet Zhou Yan still stood in front of her. “Maybe she didn’t know how important the files were.”
I looked at him and suddenly found it all absurd.
A vice president could take a core company project being leaked by an intern who had been on the job for all of one day and call it “not knowing.”
I asked, “Zhou Yan, are you stupid, or are you malicious?”
His face flushed crimson.
I didn’t wait for his answer.
Because I already knew it.
