Chapter 3

After the meeting ended, Zhou Yan cornered me in the hallway.

“Come with me.”

He was still using that same commanding tone from before.

I didn’t move.

He lowered his voice. “Lin Jianwei, it’s one thing for a husband and wife to have a little spat, but using the company as a joke? Don’t you think that’s going too far?”

I laughed. “You think I can make the group’s board of directors play along with my little tantrum?”

He choked on his words.

Xu Nianchu stood not far away and said gently, “Director Lin, Zhou Yan is just worried about everyone. If the company suddenly dissolves, no one will have a job. You can’t destroy so many people’s livelihoods just because you hate me, can you?”

As soon as she said that, the expressions of several employees in the hallway changed again.

I turned to look at her. “It’s your first day on the job, and you can’t even get the basic reports right, yet you’re already speaking on everyone’s behalf?”

Xu Nianchu bit her lip. “I just think people shouldn’t be so cold-blooded.”

“Cold-blooded?” I handed her the compensation plan. “Read it carefully. The group will reassign positions without lowering salaries, and severance compensation will be above the legal standard. Tell me, what part of that is cold-blooded?”

She lowered her head and skimmed it, her expression stiffening for a brief moment.

Zhou Yan, however, didn’t even look at the document.

All he could see was his wounded male pride.

“So you’ve been hiding this from me all along?” he said. “I was working myself to death for the company, bowing and scraping to secure investment, while you clearly had assets, connections, and decision-making power, and you just watched?”

I asked calmly, “Did you ever secure any?”

His face turned livid.

Neither of Xinglan’s first two rounds of financing had been secured by him.

For the first round, the investors had been interested in the stability of the buildings and server leases held by Hengwei. For the second round, the group had been willing to reinvest because I had completed the business plan full of holes on Zhou Yan’s behalf.

All Zhou Yan knew was that he had worn his most expensive suit on the day the papers were signed.

He had no idea that on the nights before those signatures, I had stayed in the conference room until four in the morning, salvaging his financial model from a pile of garbage.

And he still thought it was his victory.

“Lin Jianwei,” he said coldly, “are you putting on this act now because you want me to beg you?”

I shook my head. “You’ve misunderstood. I don’t need you to beg me.”

“Then what do you want?”

“Cooperate with the handover. Sign the divorce papers.”

Those six words were like a blade, slicing straight through the last of his dignity.

Zhou Yan’s pupils contracted. “Say that again.”

But for one fleeting instant, a flash of delight crossed Xu Nianchu’s face.

I saw it all.

I said, “I’ve already had my lawyer draft the divorce agreement. Marital assets will be handled according to the law, and debts will be divided based on their actual use. I’ll also be keeping the video of you laying hands on me yesterday.”

Zhou Yan looked toward the hallway camera, and his expression finally changed.

“You recorded me?”

“It’s a public area of the company, monitored the entire time,” I reminded him. “The office door wasn’t fully closed either. The audio was captured very clearly.”

Xu Nianchu hurriedly said, “Zhou Yan, stop arguing. Director Lin is just angry right now.”

I glanced at her. “Xu Nianchu, don’t be in such a hurry either. Your handover list will be sent separately.”

She froze. “I’m only an intern. What is there for me to hand over?”

I smiled faintly. “Exactly. You’d better really be only an intern.”
