Chapter 4
Chapter 4
The moment he left, I got up and headed to a hidden spot.
Sure enough, someone arrived soon after.
“You said I lost my memory. How do you prove it? And who are you?”
“My name is Lin Ying. I am your subordinate. You were the one who gave me this name. You are the Second Miss of the Jiang Family. The Jiang Clan is immensely wealthy and powerful in the Hua Kingdom, and the only one capable of standing against them is the Song Clan. That is also why the two great families have been at odds for nearly a century.”
Lin Ying pulled up a file.
“These are the records of all the hostile operations between you and Song Jinbie over the years.”
I skimmed through them.
They felt familiar, but they did not stir much in me.
Now and then, a few scattered fragments surfaced in my mind.
Only Song Jinbie’s face lingered there, half righteous, half wicked, bewitching as a demon.
As opponents went, someone like him was barely acceptable.
“Miss?”
“I believe you. And watching that little enchantress do something stupid enough to attract attention does sound rather interesting.”
Lin Ying: “? Miss, what are you planning to do? Yesterday, I saw the two of you…”
I gave a derisive laugh and casually plucked a rose from the ground.
“Find somewhere hidden and stay out of sight. I’m not done playing with Song Jinbie yet. Look at him. Doesn’t he resemble this flower?”
Lin Ying: “? Who uses a flower to describe a man? And an enemy, at that.”
“Tsk. You don’t understand.”
Song Jinbie was like a wild rose on an island.
Calling him beautiful was only the most superficial description.
In truth, he grew domineeringly, his thorns sharp and hard.
He liked to narrow his eyes and smile while hurting people. Sinister, cunning, and utterly rotten.
After settling Lin Ying and the others in place, I went back to find Song Jinbie.
I was seized by an urgent need to do something to him.
I boarded the second batch of boats, where the captain was pulling at the sail.
“Jizhao, off to find your man?”
“Mm. Off to find a dog.”
I studied the flower in my hand, not noticing the captain’s hesitant expression.
After we met up with the first batch of boats, I boarded Song Jinbie’s vessel.
He was dressed in dark fishing gear, a pair of sunglasses perched on the bridge of his tall, straight nose.
His jawline was clean and sharp. He leaned forward slightly, both hands braced on the railing.
“How leisurely.”
I leaned against the railing, and Song Jinbie gave a low hum in response.
Because he was wearing sunglasses, I could not see his expression.
But his neck was exposed.
Clean. Sexy. Tempting.
In the fragmented memories I had, I had stared at that pale stretch of skin more than once, wondering how to slit his throat with a single stroke.
I tilted my head and bit down.
An enemy who had lost his memory was at his most defenseless.
Even with my teeth pressed against his windpipe, he did not resist at all.
A flicker of smug satisfaction rose in my heart.
Song Jinbie’s life was mine to take whenever I wished.
Taking advantage of people at their weakest was what I did best.
But Song Jinbie’s Adam’s apple bobbed quickly, and a breath slipped from the corner of his lips.
I opened my eyes and saw someone approaching, only to hurriedly retreat.
Scattered whispers drifted over.
“Their relationship looks so good. Why would Jizhao run off there?”
“Where?”
“Fengyue Forest. You know, the rendezvous spot. That place doesn’t exactly have the best reputation, but it’s the only secluded place around. If she couldn’t help herself, it’s understandable. Look, she’s even got a rose pinned to her chest. When she first arrived, a young guy on the island did give her flowers.”
“Don’t talk nonsense. What if she just doesn’t know what that place means?”
I had not expected such a misunderstanding to come out of it.
Song Jinbie naturally leaned in, placing both hands on either side of me.
His tall figure bent over me as he lowered his head.
“See? Their relationship is just fine.”
Song Jinbie’s kiss was gentle and beautiful.
But only I knew the truth.
The rose pinned to my clothes still had its thorns. Now, crushed beneath his chest, they pierced through the thin fabric and stabbed into his skin.
The petals, meanwhile, brushed softly against my collarbone.
As if he felt no pain at all, Song Jinbie hooked an arm around my waist and pulled me toward him.
We fit together without the slightest gap, and his kiss went on and on, with no sign of stopping.
