After my phone had been going off for half an hour, I finally dared to pick it up.

The first thing I saw was—

Sheng Jing: “Shen Shi’an, I’m outside your building.”

“Come down!”

“Ha. You wouldn’t want your husband to find out about us, would you?”

Whatever. The place I’d taken him before wasn’t the home Su Huai and I normally lived in.

I cautiously drew back the curtain and looked down.

Straight into a pair of chilling eyes.

Sheng Jing.

For the love of God. I didn’t dare keep my eyes open. Please let this be a hallucination.

I closed the curtain.

Opened it again.

Merciful heavens.

Why was he still there?!

I checked the time.

Perfect timing.

Su Huai would be home in ten minutes.

I was about to fall apart.

I rushed downstairs, only for Sheng Jing’s expression to turn uglier.

He gave a cold laugh, barely containing his fury. “Shen Shi’an, does he mean that much to you?”

“The second I threaten to tell him, you come running!”

My head was buzzing. I hurriedly tried to drag him into an empty passageway.

He was harder to restrain than a pig on the loose. “What, am I that embarrassing to be seen with?”

Classic side-piece talk. Any passerby who caught a single sentence would know exactly what was happening.

In desperation, I lunged forward and kissed him.

Great.

Now the passersby didn’t need to hear a word.

I finally hauled Sheng Jing into the passageway.

I felt as if I’d spent ten years cutting fodder for pigs.

I sighed.

“Sheng Jing, give me a little time.”

The anger in his eyes hadn’t faded. His fingers locked around my wrist, and his voice turned as cutting as it used to be. “I haven’t seen you in three years, and you’ve been married for two.”

“Give you a little more time and your kid will be three.”

Me: “…”

Still angry, he grew even more spiteful. “Shen Shi’an, are you really that easy? You leave me and marry the first man who comes along?”

I was silent a moment, then looked up at him. “Yes.”

“If it wasn’t you, anyone would do.”

Sheng Jing froze. His parted lips moved, then, oddly, closed. He actually stopped talking.

In the still darkness, a faint light glimmered in his eyes. His hot breath seemed to reach through the damp, clinging air and tangle with mine.

At last he spoke. “All right, Shen Shi’an. I’ll give you time.”

Really? That easy to fool?

If he’d done any proper checking, he’d know that a man with Su Huai’s looks and family background was hardly someone I’d just picked up at random!

Having dealt with Sheng Jing, I raced straight home, beating Su Huai by the narrowest margin.

Something flickered in his eyes when he saw me panting, but he asked no questions.

He seemed particularly eager that night, though, holding me as he kissed me all the way from the door to the window.

The moon was bright. The open curtains did nothing to keep its clear light out, and our tightly entwined figures pressed against the floor-to-ceiling glass.

Dazed by his kisses, I opened my eyes a sliver and caught his gaze.

He looked clearheaded and cool. The faint red at the corners of his eyes held no trace of desire, and he was looking past me, far into the distance.

Instinctively, I followed his gaze.

Then froze.

A black Cullinan was parked beneath the flowering locust tree downstairs.

A tall, lean man stood beside it.

The cigarette between his fingers glowed and dimmed.

His cold eyes met Su Huai’s directly.

Sheng Jing!

I sucked in a breath. Why hadn’t he left?!

As casually as I could, I turned Su Huai’s face back so he could only look at me. Then I hooked my arms around his neck and slowly traded places with him.

“Pay attention.”

His eyes were dark and unreadable. He watched me for a long moment, then let me move him.

Now facing the window,

I kissed Su Huai while frantically signaling to the glowering Sheng Jing below.

Go! Go!

We side pieces aren’t supposed to flaunt ourselves in front of the spouse!

But I’d forgotten. Sheng Jing wasn’t an ordinary side piece.

He was a very brazen side piece.

As if he couldn’t see my signals, he remained perfectly still, watching me.

Su Huai’s kisses grew hotter.

In the haze of desire,

I pulled the curtains shut with a trembling hand.
