Chapter 5
Chapter 5
Zhou Jibai seemed to finally regain a sliver of clarity.
He carefully put the dress away, picked up his trophy, and left the private room.
The moment he pulled the door open, I followed immediately.
Zhou Jibai put on a mask, pulled his hat down low, and zipped his jacket all the way to the top.
He walked in a hurry, looking no different from any other passerby. He purposefully took the back exit, intentionally avoiding all the reporters and flashing lights outside.
I felt a bit uneasy.
At a moment of success and fame like this, Zhou Jibai should have been at the victory banquet.
Accompanied by a date, amidst the clinking of glasses, he should have been crowned by the envious gazes of thousands.
But instead, Zhou Jibai was all alone, without a hint of the glory that comes with winning an award.
I shook my head, clicking my tongue in pity.
It was the dead of night. After stepping outside, Zhou Jibai hailed a taxi.
“Driver, to Huating Cemetery.”
I couldn’t help but feel shocked when he gave the address.
…This guy must be drunk out of his mind.
What Best Actor goes to a cemetery right after winning an award??
Wait.
Could it be… he’s going to see me?
After reaching the destination, Zhou Jibai got out of the car.
The wind on the mountain was strong, making his coat flap loudly. I didn’t know if he was cold, but he stubbornly continued to walk upward.
He stopped in front of a tombstone.
It was pitch black, and I couldn’t see anything clearly.
I was deeply moved.
You’re a good kid. You didn’t forget to tell me, your former manager and former girlfriend, even after winning the award.
Zhou Jibai leaned down slightly, resting half his body against it. His hands gripped the edges of the stone tablet tightly, and his body trembled slightly.
He looked suppressed and pained, letting out faint sobs.
Zhou Jibai pulled out his phone.
As the light from the screen flashed across, I finally saw the words on the tombstone.
My name wasn’t written on it at all.
Instead, the three characters “Zhou Jibai” were carved squarely into the stone.
I almost choked.
My touched feelings were for nothing; this wasn’t mine at all.
But why did he carve his own name on a tombstone?
Since when?
No, what exactly is this guy doing?
A string of question marks popped into my head. I could already imagine tomorrow’s trending searches on Weibo-
“New Best Actor Zhou Jibai, overwhelmed with emotion on the night of his win, celebrates by building himself a monument.”
“Best Actor Zhou acts like a drunken madman in a cemetery late at night; feared to be bad for his karma.”
I pressed a hand to my forehead, finally unable to resist scolding him:
“Zhou Jibai, you bastard.
“I’ve been dead for so long, yet you still make me worry about you.
“You’ve drunk too much this time. I really can’t help you back.”
As soon as the words left my mouth…
I saw Zhou Jibai’s back tremble slightly.
That’s right.
This time, I trusted my own eyes.
I was one hundred percent certain that Zhou Jibai had just reacted to my words.
He must have heard my complaining.
If he can hear me…
That means.
He has actually been able to see me this whole time.
-Back in the private room, Zhou Jibai was faking it.
