Chapter 1
Chapter 1
Today is Zhou Jibai’s awards ceremony, and it’s also the third year I’ve been drifting by his side as a ghost.
Zhou Jibai’s hair is slicked back, his features deep and chiseled, his thin lips pressed firmly together.
He wears a custom-tailored suit that accentuates his broad shoulders and narrow waist.
My gaze slowly drifts downward.
Only I know that beneath this suit lies a lean, powerful core.
And those legs-they’re longer than my lifespan.
I let out a sharp intake of breath and wiped away imaginary drool.
Standing on stage at six-foot-two, Zhou Jibai finally looks every bit the superstar.
Yet, there isn’t a hint of a smile on his face.
He’s a strange one. He finally got what he wanted, yet he’s still wearing that cold, brooding expression to look cool.
I floated over to his shoulder and unceremoniously sat down.
The year I met Zhou Jibai, I was a rising star of a talent manager in the entertainment industry, and he was a bottom-tier nobody playing dead bodies as an extra.
It was I who dragged him out of the mud and to the peak of the mountain, packaging him as the ultimate heartthrob in Chinese entertainment with countless obsessed fans.
If it weren’t for me, Zhou Jibai probably wouldn’t have even been allowed to eat at the dogs’ table in this industry.
Since I died, I’ve been wandering around Zhou Jibai.
At first, I was mostly dormant, remembering nothing, only knowing that I was a ghost.
Later, I discovered that the longer I drifted by his side, the clearer my mind became and the more I remembered.
First, I remembered my name was Xia Tu. Then, after a long time, I remembered our tangled, messy relationship.
My thoughts snapped back to the present.
On stage, Zhou Jibai was accepting the heavy trophy from the host.
His expression was somewhat dazed.
Even with the trophy in hand, he didn’t look particularly happy.
“At this moment, do you have any words for your acceptance speech?”
As the host finished speaking, the audience fell silent.
Everyone was waiting for the new Best Actor’s acceptance speech.
Instead, Zhou Jibai pulled out his phone and dialed a number.
I floated behind him and caught a glimpse of the contact name.
It was actually my name.
The phone rang for a long time, but no one answered.
Finally, he hung up and suddenly laughed.
His eyes were cold, and his smile was mocking.
“On the day we broke up, someone said that if I ever won Best Actor, she would jump off the eighteenth floor.”
“Why aren’t you answering the phone? You didn’t actually jump, did you?”
I reached out, wanting to touch the trophy engraved with his name.
His words pierced my heart.
My fingers passed right through the trophy, meeting nothing but air.
I stared blankly at my transparent fingers.
That’s right. I’m dead now. I can’t even touch a trophy.
And of course, I can’t answer the phone.
Zhou Jibai, you’ve finally gotten your revenge, haven’t you?
