Short Story
Sunlight After the Rain
My family had three daughters, each lovelier than the last.
When we came of marriageable age, suitors nearly wore our threshold smooth.
Even the Emperor decided to interfere.
He insisted that one of us marry the great general, Xie Yuan.
Father and Mother could do nothing but sigh.
My two elder sisters exchanged uneasy looks, so I rose with righteous resolve.
“What’s there to worry about? Marrying a general would be glorious, and I might even get to ride a great stallion!”
“If neither of you will marry him, I will.”
Later, Xie Yuan pinned me in his arms and coaxed me again and again:
“Are you shirking again, Mianmian? Why won’t you ride your great stallion tonight?”
Sunshine and Roses
The boy who loved me more than anyone else in the world was dead.
His name was Jiang Yan. He was a police officer, stabbed seven times by a rich second-generation heir while trying to save a girl from domestic abuse.
Afterward, the girl tearfully claimed that Jiang Yan had molested her, and that was why her boyfriend had stabbed him.
The killer even got off scot-free with a psychiatric evaluation declaring him mentally ill.
As I stared at their faces, I suddenly laughed.
A psychiatric evaluation, huh?
What a coincidence.
I had one too.
Surrender
During the first week of the semester, I frequently dreamed of two men. Both of them claimed to be my boyfriend.
I woke up every morning with my entire body aching, so I went to see a psychiatrist.
“It’s just too much stress. Don’t be nervous.”
He gave me a mild smile and prescribed some medication. “Take these, and you’ll fall asleep much earlier.”
Later, I realized the dreams were only getting longer.
In the dream, the other man pinned my hands down and chuckled.
“I told you to keep the dosage small. If it lasts too long, she won’t be able to handle it.”
Survival Guide for a Vicious Woman
After we broke up, I ran into my ex at the mall.
My hair was a mess, and I was in the middle of a frantic struggle to change a diaper.
He, on the other hand, was impeccably dressed, surrounded by a fawning entourage as he inspected the premises.
Our eyes met. When he saw the fussy child in my arms, his expression shifted instantly. “Is he mine?”
I gave a cold laugh and turned the baby’s face toward him. “Do you think he looks like you?”
He studied the child for a long moment before nodding with certainty. “He does.”
“Xue Chang, we broke up over three years ago.” I gave him a mirthless smile and bounced the little one in my arms to remind him. “My baby is only six months old.”
Susu
The moment my daughter was born, Old Madam Lu of the Yongchang Marquis Estate took her away.
There was only one reason: I was once the most celebrated courtesan in Yongning, and the kept mistress of the marquis’s heir.
A filthy, lowborn prostitute like me had no right to raise the estate’s precious young lady.
Not even when I was the one who had given birth to her.

Chapter 0
The Princess believed in living for pleasure.
During a palace banquet, I spared a single extra glance at the Crown Prince, and she had him delivered straight to my bed.
“So what if he’s the Crown Prince? As women, we must rise to the challenge!”
Afterward, the Crown Prince demanded that I take responsibility for him.
The Princess blocked me, refusing to allow it. She declared with righteous indignation, “If you give him an official status, how are you supposed to keep having fun in the future?”
Later, when enemy troops surrounded the imperial palace, I rushed to tell her to flee for her life. Instead, I found her in her tent, favoring dozens of male consorts.
“Princess, look at the time! It’s too late!”
She finally realized the gravity of the situation. “You’re right. Here, I’ll share half of them with you.”
And so, I was delayed as well.
Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine that the Hostage Prince from the enemy nation would be among those male consorts.
Just before he was about to be rescued, I ruined his virtue. He was so furious he ground his teeth in rage.
The Princess and I were captured together. Tied behind horses and dragged along the ground, we were sent to the Great Yan Palace.
To scratch out a living, I confessed my love to the Hostage Prince, claiming I only took his body because I loved him, and begged for his protection.
Unexpectedly, the Princess stepped forward and said, “You fool, you actually believe that? To her, you’re just one of-”
The Hostage Prince drew his sword on the spot, demanding an answer: “Exactly how many men have you had before me?”
“I’m truly done with you! Princess, you’re my living ancestor! Aren’t we unlucky enough already?”
I was so enraged that I coughed up blood and died.
The Princess, however, was so notoriously debauched in her speech and conduct that the enemy soldiers wanted to humiliate her, yet they feared she might actually enjoy it. Left with no other choice, they allowed her to live out her final years in peace.
Carrying my corpse on her back, the Princess declared that since she could no longer seek pleasure in the days to come, she would rather die. She threw herself onto a sword and ended her life immediately.
Reborn into a new life, I have returned to the day I entered the palace to save her.
Sweet Plum
When my Adoptive Father first saw me, I was eating a bowl of spoiled rice.
Hungry flies were fighting me for the food, and I couldn’t even spare a hand to shoo them away.
Later, he took me home. He threw me a party for my seventh birthday.
He said, “Xiao Jue, today is your new beginning. From now on, this day will be your birthday every year.”
Everyone smiled at me. Only my Adoptive Mother roared after the banquet had ended, “She’s your illegitimate daughter, isn’t she?”
Taotao
My mother taught me that a concubine could only live well by pleasing her husband until he cast aside his wife for her.
But I discovered that the lawful wife was beautiful, kind, and—most importantly—rich.
So I switched sides without hesitation and asked, “Madam, may I work for you instead?”
Taotie Is Hungry
The rich playboy offered to treat me to dinner.
Under his guidance, I ordered a lavish feast for ten: king crab, lobster, precious French caviar, the works.
Then he gave me a malicious smile.
“Baby, if you can’t finish all this, you’ll have to pay for it yourself, you know.”
He thought I didn’t know about the livestream camera on his chest, where the chat was flooding with mockery aimed at me.
“Shocked now, aren’t ya? This meal costs 680,000 yuan total. Where’s a broke girl like you gonna find that kind of money?”
“Did you see how greedy she looked when she ordered? I’m dying laughing.”
“Did she really think it’d be that easy to take advantage of a rich guy?”
“Gold Digger Hunting Squad scores again! Bros, share the stream so we can enjoy the show!”
In the spotlight of the livestream, I didn’t panic like they imagined. I simply picked up my knife and fork, flashed a pair of playful little fangs, and smiled.
Hunting?
As an ancient beast famed for its appetite, I’ve always been fond of a certain human saying.
The most skilled hunters often appear as prey.
