Chapter 1

I came back to myself amid Gu Feiyan’s startled cry and realized I had been reborn.

In my previous life, on the day of my wedding, someone smeared black ink across my face in front of everyone.

Gu Feiyan ran off giggling.

Every eye in the room fell on me.

I stood there terrified and helpless, tears brimming in my eyes, yet I barely managed to hold them back.

The maid supporting me wiped at the black stain for me, only to find it would not come off. Under my mother-in-law’s urging, she could only hastily lower the bridal veil over my head so we could complete the wedding rites first.

Back then, none of us realized that blot of ink would stay with me for the rest of my life.

Today, as I looked at the ink stain on Lu Yu’s face, two thoughts quickly surfaced in my mind.

First, I would make sure this ink stain remained on Lu Yu’s face for the rest of his life. I wanted him to regret what had happened today until the day he died.

Second, I would make Gu Feiyan taste this pain as well. I would make the two of them love and hurt each other, suspect each other, and hate each other until death.

When Lu Yu saw Gu Feiyan flee, he let out a slight breath of relief.

Then he turned to me, his face full of reproach.

“Xiangxiang, you have disappointed me greatly.”

I lifted the disheveled bridal veil from my head with indifference and tossed it to the ground.

“Let’s call off the engagement.”

In my previous life, Lu Yu and I had been married for more than twenty years, yet we had never been truly husband and wife.

He had kept himself pure for Gu Feiyan.

He and I had been nothing more than strangers living under the same roof.

In this life, he and I had not yet bowed in the wedding hall. We could not be considered husband and wife.

I would remain a daughter of the Li Family.

I would not become a woman of his Lu family.

I would never be tied to him again.

Lu Yu was stunned. He reached out and grabbed my sleeve.

“Xiangxiang, just because someone caused a scene, you want to call off the engagement?”

All around us, everyone was shocked.

Lu Yu’s mother, Madam Qian, looked livid.

Lu Yu’s younger sister, Lu Lian, was furious as well.

I let out a scornful laugh. In my previous life, I had also thought I was simply unlucky, that I had run into a madwoman who caused trouble and ruined my entire life.

But later, I learned the truth.

Lu Yu, his mother, and his sister had all clearly known of Gu Feiyan’s existence. They had known she possessed a secret medicine that could remove the ink stain from my face, yet they had all kept silent together.

My mother-in-law had counted on me to manage the household.

My sister-in-law had relied on me to earn her dowry and support her in her husband’s family.

They had hoped I would be driven by my inferiority to push myself, squeeze myself dry, and work like a tireless old ox to please them. That way, they could use me grudgingly while still looking down on me from above.

In this life, they could forget about splashing even a drop of dirty water onto me.

I said indifferently, “Young Master Lu, this ink stain is called Frostless Ink. Once it adheres to the skin, unless one has a specially made secret medicine, there is absolutely no way to remove it. That woman was clearly here to destroy me. And she kept calling you Yu-lang. Young Master Lu, this is the romantic debt you brought upon yourself, and I, Li Xiangjun, absolutely refuse to marry a man whose heart is divided.”

Lu Yu’s expression flickered with surprise, but then his gaze darkened.

“Do not be alarmist. I admit I know that woman, but there is absolutely no private affection between us. Today was nothing more than her childish mischief.”
