Chapter 3

After I had eaten my fill, I failed to leave after all.

Yurong counted it out on her fingers. If I walked away just like that, not only would I have to pay back the one hundred taels, I would also have to compensate the Shen Family twenty taels of silver for the meal!

Staying behind to bear Eldest Master Shen a child was clearly the better bargain. That much math, I could do.

Yurong took me to have a nice, warm bath, then changed me into a fresh set of clothes.

She warned me, “Whatever you do, don’t mention eating dog food in front of the Eldest Master.”

My eyes filled with tears as I looked at Yurong gratefully.

I understood. It was shameful. I couldn’t let Eldest Master Shen know.

Otherwise, why would he want a thief for a concubine?

That night, Yurong took my hand and led me to a quiet courtyard.

She explained carefully, “Go through the garden and turn left. The first door on your right is the Eldest Master’s room. He doesn’t like keeping lamps lit at night, so just take off your clothes and throw yourself onto his bed.”

Seeing my blank, muddled expression, Yurong said a great deal more.

Things like, even if the Eldest Master pushed me away, I had to persist.

And that with my fair skin and soft, sweet scent, no man would be able to resist.

Sigh. In any case, she said a lot, but I didn’t remember much of it.

All I vaguely recalled was that Yurong told me to be shameless and not fear rejection.

Of course I wasn’t afraid of embarrassment. This was one hundred taels of silver we were talking about.

I wrapped my cloak tightly around myself and entered the garden.

The moment I stepped inside, the fragrance of flowers filling the whole garden made me a little dizzy.

Oh, Yurong said to turn right, then the first room on the left.

Sure enough, there were no lamps lit in the room, only faint moonlight.

I threw myself toward the bed, and as expected, the Eldest Master tried to push me away.

How could I let all that bright, shiny silver run off?

I pinned him down on the bed and stripped off his clothes.

At first, the Eldest Master struggled fiercely and even tried to call for help.

In my panic, I stuffed my dudou into his mouth, then tied him up with my sash.

The Eldest Master was panting hard, his body burning hot.

When I was bathing during the day, Yurong had taught me many things.

I vaguely remembered her saying something about kissing and biting.

I muttered to myself, surely she couldn’t mean for me to bite the Eldest Master. That would be disrespectful.

Then it could only mean the Eldest Master was supposed to kiss me and bite me.

I made up my mind. No matter how much it hurt, I would endure it.

The Eldest Master leaned against the head of the bed. The curtains blocked much of the light, so I couldn’t see his expression clearly.

I nestled closer and pushed his head under the quilt.

After that, it was truly hot.

I was like a honey peach that had been bitten into, sweet juices slowly seeping out.

After being tossed about for half the night, the Eldest Master fell asleep.

I untied the sash binding him, put my clothes back on, and prepared to leave.

But my stomach was a little hungry.

The scent of green pears on the table drew me over.

Without thinking, I picked one up and took a bite.

After I finished chewing, I suddenly worried that if the Eldest Master discovered one missing tomorrow, he would think me greedy and throw me out.

I thought for a moment, then stuffed the pear with one bite taken out of it into the Eldest Master’s hand.

This way, he would definitely think he had eaten it in his sleep.

Hehe. I was pretty clever after all.

I walked out the door and saw Yurong standing outside, her face deathly pale.

I said proudly, “Sister Yurong, I did exactly as you said. Not a single mistake.”

But Yurong stroked my hair and sighed. “Madam… do you perhaps not know left from right?”

The moment I heard that, I immediately tried to prove myself and pointed. “Of course I do. This is left!”

Yurong closed her eyes and let out a long breath.

She muttered to herself, “It’s all my fault. Since I’ve already committed a crime worthy of death, I might as well see it through. Before Master recovers, we must have her conceive a child. Perhaps for the child’s sake, Master will spare her life.”
