Chapter 5

[She can’t seriously think an adoptive father would actually care that much about her, can she?]

[I just love watching vicious villains get slapped in the face.]

[Looks like she’s about to lose everything again~]

Looking at the comments floating before my eyes, my nose stung.

I reached out, wanting to grab his sleeve.

But Uncle Zheng suddenly turned around and shielded me firmly behind him.

“Zheng Hao is my child. I believe she would never steal!”

His words rang out, firm and forceful.

I trembled at the sound.

Staring at his back, I couldn’t say a word for a long time.

“On the contrary, look at yourselves. One of you is supposed to be a teacher, yet before finding out the truth, you made subjective judgments about whether a child was good or bad. The others are supposed to be parents, yet you have no sense of empathy and are here bullying someone else’s child.”

“I’m ashamed on your behalf!”

Although Uncle Zheng wasn’t wearing his police uniform, the righteous aura about him was still overwhelming.

All at once, the class monitor’s parents, who had been making a huge scene in the office, shut their mouths in embarrassment.

The teacher’s eyes darted back and forth a few times, and her tone softened.

“Zheng Hao’s father, that’s not what we meant. It’s just that when there’s a conflict between students, we have to ask about the situation clearly, right?”

Uncle Zheng sat down beside me.

“Fine. Then let’s ask properly.”

“You’re the one who said my daughter stole the money, aren’t you?”

“Name and age. State them.”

The class monitor was so nervous his voice shook. “Zhang Zhishuai, fourteen.”

“Student Zhang, what evidence do you have to prove Zheng Hao stole the money?”

“I don’t have any, but Zheng Hao knew where I put the money. She even said if I kept it there, a thief would get it. Not long after she said that, my money really was stolen. If it wasn’t her, who else could it be?”

“So the place where you kept the money was extremely unsafe to begin with. My daughter fulfilled her obligation by reminding you, yet you turned around and bit her for it?”

“No, I didn’t…”

Zhang Zhishuai didn’t know how to refute him. All he could do was keep saying he hadn’t.

Uncle Zheng continued pressing him. “From the phone call earlier, I already know the general situation. My daughter said that when your money went missing, she happened to be in the teacher’s office asking questions about her homework. She had no time to commit the crime. How could my daughter have stolen your money?”

“As class monitor, you had a duty to safeguard the class funds. Because of your carelessness, the money was stolen. Either you take responsibility yourself, or you find out the truth and get the money back. Yet what you chose was to push all the blame onto an innocent classmate? You’re quite good at taking shortcuts.”

Zhang Zhishuai’s thoughts had been exposed, and he instantly panicked.

He blurted out without thinking, “But in our class, she’s the only orphan! Everyone says orphans have impure minds, and that’s why their biological parents abandoned them! If it wasn’t her, who else could it be?!”

The moment he said that, Zhang Zhishuai’s parents immediately looked at me in surprise.

There were only three words in their eyes-no wonder.

Uncle Zheng glared back at them without the slightest politeness.

Then he shot back,

“My child has parents, a healthy body, and a healthy mind. Compared to any other child in this world, she lacks nothing!”

“Student Zhang, please apologize solemnly to my child for your words and actions!”

Uncle Zheng stood up.

He was very tall, and after years of regular training, his body was packed with muscle.

A man one meter eighty-nine standing in front of a middle school boy who hadn’t fully grown yet was practically a giant.

He lowered his head, his gaze sharp and imposing.

Zhang Zhishuai was so frightened that he started crying on the spot.

Seeing this, his parents hurried forward and wrapped their arms around him.

They originally wanted to lose their temper, but when they looked up and caught Uncle Zheng’s gaze, they only muttered,

“Our child isn’t wrong, though. If we’d known his deskmate was an orphan, we would have come to the school long ago and asked the teacher to move our child’s seat.”

“Children from incomplete families are always a little twisted psychologically.”

I clenched my fists.

I glared at those two faces that looked so much like Zhang Zhishuai’s.

I wished I could rush forward and tear their mouths apart.

Just as my patience reached its limit, Uncle Zheng spoke first.

“No wonder the kid is so ugly. Turns out the parents are even uglier.”

“This is how you educate your child? Then aren’t you just wasting all that tuition money? You might as well send him to pet school to learn how to sit and shake hands. Why bother teaching him things humans are supposed to learn? What a waste of effort.”
