My dad was a delinquent, my mom a troublemaking wild child.
They had me before they got married.
They never paid me much attention—until one day they realized something was wrong.
Very wrong.
Dad: “She’s in sixth grade and she’s never skipped a single class.
You don’t think there’s something wrong with her?”
Mom: “Look what I found in her room.
An Outstanding Student certificate!
That filthy thing—in our daughter’s room!
What are we going to do?”
That day, for the first time ever, they took me out together: hair dye, tattoos, an internet café, the works.
They were determined to set me straight and get me back on the right path.
