“Shuyang, what are you thinking about?”

“Nothing. Just wondering what to have for lunch.”

I was walking to the cafeteria with my roommate.

After Shen Junze marked me on Friday, I’d… passed out…

I’d never heard of a Beta fainting after an Alpha marked them.

Were Shen Junze’s pheromones so overpowering that I couldn’t handle them as a Beta?

When I slowly came to, I found him looking frantic.

I was about to say I was fine when a sharp pain in my neck distracted me.

I reached up and touched the wound.

A bite mark. Still warm, too…

I immediately swore at him. “Shen Junze, are you a dog? Why’d you bite so hard?”

Seeing that I could still yell at him seemed to reassure him. He ignored my teasing.

“All right, all right, Your Majesty. I promise I’ll be gentler next time. How do you feel?”

Instead of snapping back, Shen Junze was seriously asking after my health. I suddenly felt embarrassed.

“Okay, I guess. I can handle it.”

“Shuyang, if anything feels wrong, tell me straightaway. I’ll take you to the hospital.”

He looked at me earnestly.

“I’m really fine,” I hurried to say. “Just make me lots of good food over the next two days and take good care of me!”

Shen Junze seemed a little helpless. Then he sighed. “Got it. Stay right here.”

With that, he turned and went to the kitchen.

He kept his word. All weekend, he did everything I asked. I practically ruled his apartment.

I reached up and touched my neck. The skin was smooth.

That bite mark had faded fast, I thought.

Suddenly, the roommate eating with me pointed at me. “Fang Shuyang, something’s going on with you!”

“Huh?”

“Don’t play dumb! Why were you holding your neck and grinning to yourself? Come on, tell me. Have you got a crush? Give me a name and I’ll set you up.”

Zhao Yunke, the biggest gossip in our dorm. His favorite thing in life—playing matchmaker.

Alpha, Beta, Omega, it didn’t matter. He could get their contact details and eventually turn them into a happy couple.

He’d set up quite a few couples, yet he was still painfully single himself…

I came back to my senses. “There’s nothing going on. Don’t worry about it.”

“Oh, come on. Tell me…”

I refused to budge, which meant Zhao Yunke was still going on about it at the end.

After all, no matter how you looked at it, Shen Junze and I could never happen.
