chapter 1
Recently, my devastatingly handsome junior brother had attracted the attention of a scoundrel who hid nearby and watched him every time he bathed.
This had been going on for months. The culprit was frighteningly skilled and had never been caught.
Junior Brother had tried everything. He laid poison-gas traps. He sealed his doors and windows with ten-thousand-year ice. He even borrowed the vicious dog from next door.
That dog bit everyone it saw. It was genuinely ferocious.
And still the scoundrel escaped.
The next morning, Junior Brother opened his door and stared, dumbfounded.
Trails of purple poison gas spread wildly from his doorway. The mountainside was covered in a chaos of footprints. The ice sealing every door and window had been melted by intense flames, and loose roof tiles nearly fell on his head.
That morning, the entire sect heard Junior Brother cry out.
“What the hell? Where’s my dog?”
I hurried over. “Don’t panic, Junior Brother. Your senior sister will help you find it.”
My junior brother’s name was Wei Yuqi. He stood beneath the eaves, tall and elegant, with a beauty beyond compare.
He looked at me, a faint smile touching his thin lips. “Senior Sister got here quickly.”
I nodded, my expression perfectly composed, then turned to leave—though one of my legs was limping a little.
Behind me came Junior Brother’s cool voice. “Senior Sister, why are you limping?”
Without looking back, I answered, “I pursued the scoundrel for you last night and was unfortunately wounded in the fight.”
I raced back to my courtyard. The moment I pushed open the gate, an enticing aroma washed over me.
Senior Brother sat cross-legged in the courtyard. A pot bubbled merrily in front of him.
“Senior Brother, have you lost your mind? He’s looking for his dog!”
I charged over, snatched up the ladle, and began fishing for remains.
“Heavens! If we piece it back together, can we still revive it?”
Senior Brother raised his head blankly.
His once-handsome face had turned deep purple, and even his speech sounded dazed.
“Junior Sister, don’t misunderstand. I’m brewing an antidote, not cooking the dog.”
I let out a long breath, then stared at the pot, unsure what to say. There was clearly a chicken in it.
Senior Brother gave an oh. “I tossed in a black-boned chicken while I was at it. Is that a problem?”
Something still felt wrong.
Just then, Master limped out, leading the vicious dog by its leash.
There was no denying it: last night had been a bloody battle.
Master had begun by closing his eyes and forming a spell seal, summoning Nine-Yang Fire to melt the ice around the doors and windows.
Senior Brother followed right behind him, only to inhale the poison gas and be chased all over the mountain by the dog.
Torn between helping them both, I flew after the beast and got bitten instead.
The dog clamped onto my leg and refused to let go. Not even summoning wind around my legs could shake it loose, so I had no choice but to send Master a private voice transmission. “Master, save me.”
Master cursed under his breath. “Two useless fools who ruin everything you touch!”
He knocked the dog unconscious with one palm just as Wei Yuqi rose from his bath.
In that split second, Master scooped up the dog and sprinted several miles.
Three people had worked all night and seen absolutely nothing.
Worse, while Master was meditating to recover, the dog woke up and bit him too.
And that was how we ended up with two cripples and one idiot this morning.
