Chapter 6
“So you’re the sweet, soft little strawberry Ella told us about?”
Mom suppressed the fury on the verge of exploding and approached Sheng Nuannuan one measured click of her heels at a time.
At the words sweet and soft, Sheng Nuannuan lifted her chin proudly.
“That’s right. It’s Baby.”
“You must be that country bumpkin’s family. Since you complimented Baby just now, Baby will be generous and forgive you for pushing her.”
As she spoke, she pointed arrogantly around the room.
“But didn’t that hick tell you? This is Baby’s castle now. Peasants like you aren’t allowed to set foot inside!”
“Your castle?”
Mom sounded as though she had heard the greatest joke in the world.
She narrowed her eyes, her voice suddenly rising.
“That’s quite a claim. Did you ask the castle whether it agreed?”
The moment she finished speaking, a hair-raising scene unfolded.
The lifeless castle seemed to awaken. The paintings on the walls, the chandeliers overhead—thousands upon thousands of inanimate objects all began chanting in the same eerie voice.
“When did we become yours?”
“When did we become yours?”
Sheng Nuannuan had never encountered anything like it. Her overbearing little face went deathly pale.
She turned desperately toward the exit, but before she had taken more than a few steps, Mom caught her by the nape and lifted her into the air.
Mom’s nails sliced through her delicate skin with ease.
She leaned close and took an elegant taste.
An instant later, she spat the blood onto the floor in disgust.
“Strawberry-flavored?”
“This is cheap blood from a rotten heart—bitter and rank. Even the rats in the sewer taste better.”
Tears and snot covered Sheng Nuannuan’s face as she looked to her eight brothers for help.
They were frightened too, but they gritted their teeth and ordered the bodyguards forward.
“Get them! They dared offend the eldest young lady. Seize every one of them and dump them into the open sea as fish food.”
More than a dozen trained bodyguards charged over.
Before they could touch so much as the hem of my parents’ clothes, my sister snapped her fingers. The men instantly froze as though struck by a paralysis spell.
With a dark expression, my sister dragged several of the rigid bodyguards deeper into the castle.
“These ones are mine. I need a meal, and I can use them to replace a few of my blood samples.”
Soon, screams rang from the darkness, each more terrible than the last.
The eight Sheng brothers finally realized that something was wrong with this castle. They tried to flee, only to discover that the doors had sealed themselves shut.
My brother blocked their escape. His gaze clung to the trembling eldest Sheng brother, and he swallowed.
“What beautiful muscle definition. Such perfect proportions must be ideal for studying how to separate flesh from bone with elegance.”
The moment he finished speaking, a terrifying force swept the eldest Sheng brother off his feet.
My brother’s sharp nails sank into the muscle of the man’s calf.
As though dragging a lifeless object, he hauled him step by step toward the laboratory at the end of the hall.
Not far away, Mom and Dad tied Sheng Nuannuan to the cross with impassive faces, making her endure the suffering she had inflicted on me.
The bats that emerged from the castle drove her remaining seven brothers into a corner.
The eldest Sheng brother finally realized that if he did not resist, he would die here.
Clenching his teeth, he used the last of his strength to pull a flare gun from his waist and fire it through the window.
A huge firework burst in the sky.
Panting hard, the eldest Sheng brother stared at me.
“You want to make an enemy of the Sheng family? Then I’ll grant your wish.”
Bound to the cross, Sheng Nuannuan seized on the words like a drowning woman finding a rope.
“When Grandpa gets here, he’ll teach all you monsters a lesson!”
Yet none of the panic they expected appeared.
Mom strolled to the wine cabinet, poured herself a glass of red wine, and took a sip.
“The Sheng family, is it? Then I’ll wait and see what he thinks he can do to me.”
The minutes ticked by.
Ten minutes later, an off-road vehicle smashed straight through the castle gates.
The door opened, and a white-haired old man entered with a cane.
He surveyed the castle and thundered in a vigorous voice,
“Who dares bully a member of my Sheng family?”
At the sight of him, Sheng Nuannuan looked as though her savior had arrived. She screamed out her accusation,
“Grandpa, it was them! Hurry and arrest these monsters.”
The old man followed the direction of her finger. His gaze landed on Mom, who stood there looking bored.
One glance was enough. His legs gave way, and he dropped heavily to his knees.
“M-Master.”
