Chapter 5
And so, being the sensible, considerate person I was, I followed my senior brother without complaint.
I watched his sword rise and fall, again and again.
I watched Shanting grow back, inch by inch.
At last, when Shanting had recovered to three-quarters of its original length, my senior brother told me that we would soon be leaving the Central Realm and stepping into the territory of the Northern Plains.
My senior brother said, “Once we enter the Northern Plains, you need to be even more careful.”
I was puzzled. “Why?”
My senior brother seemed puzzled by my puzzlement. “Because Blessed Cultivators are everywhere there.”
I blinked. “What is a Blessed Cultivator?”
That was the day my senior brother finally realized the severity of the problem.
He spent a fortune to rent a little wooden table at a roadside tea stall and began questioning me in great detail.
“You don’t know what a Blessed Cultivator is?”
I shook my head.
“Do you remember what a blessing is?”
I shook my head.
“The Four Domains and One Realm?”
I still shook my head.
My senior brother looked like he very much wanted to curse. “Then why didn’t you say so earlier?”
I felt a little wronged. “Senior Brother, you never asked.”
My senior brother fell silent.
After a long while, he calmly took a sip of tea and reached a conclusion.
“You don’t have amnesia. Your brain is broken.”
My senior brother asked if I had been transformed from a rock, because on this Wuwang Continent, even any random three-year-old child could list the Four Domains and One Realm.
“Dongze in the east, West Ridge in the west, South Desert in the south, and Northern Plains in the north, plus the Central Realm. Together, they are called the Four Domains and One Realm.”
My senior brother swiped an empty plate and stuck tea leaves at the top, bottom, left, and right, circling the rim with them.
“Wuwang Continent is surrounded by the Wang Waters, and the Central Realm is encircled by the Four Domains.
“Blessed Cultivators come from the Four Domains. Mortals live in the Central Realm.”
I slapped my forehead in realization. “I get it.”
My senior brother said, “No, you don’t.”
Though the Four Domains bordered the Central Realm, Blessed Cultivators and mortals were as different as heaven and earth.
Blessed Cultivators were “blessed” by heaven from the moment they were born, granted “Blessed Power,” and possessed talent and the right to cultivate far beyond that of ordinary mortals.
“And no matter how hard mortals work, even if they spend their entire lives trying, they can never reach the starting point of a Blessed Cultivator.”
“So it is obvious that Blessed Cultivators look down on mortals, while mortals have to rely on the strength of Blessed Cultivators to avoid being harmed by evil spirits.”
The tea in his cup had run dry. My senior brother rubbed the cup’s rim, his gaze drifting into the distance.
“That’s the rough idea, but reality is far more complicated than that.
“You’ll understand later.”
My senior brother stopped there, as if he had no intention of continuing.
As half a tapeworm in his belly, I could tell he was in low spirits, so I did not press further. I only asked,
“Senior Brother, you’re so powerful. Which domain are you a Blessed Cultivator from?”
In truth, I had only wanted to pick a safe topic to ease the mood.
I never expected such a simple question to make my senior brother think for a very, very long time.
In the end, he answered with only two words.
“Fifth Domain.”

The Unspoken Bond
My senior brother was both pitiful and broke.
His sect had been destroyed, his master captured, and his junior brothers and sisters were missing.
As for him, he carried a battered...
