Chapter 2
Chapter 2
“A bad feeling?”
Captain Liang’s words made me feel dizzy, and my heart clenched even tighter.
Why her?
Why did it have to be Wu Ruoxi?
Captain Liang bent down and picked up several comic books from under Wu Ruoxi’s bed.
Looking at the covers, I remembered the first time I met Wu Ruoxi.
“Uncle, come out here!”
Two months ago, one afternoon, I heard someone calling for me from outside the security office.
When I went out, I saw that the person calling me was a little girl in a dress.
She looked about ten, tall and skinny, with very fair skin.
A chubby little boy was sitting on the ground, crying.
She stood ramrod straight in front of Little Fatty, pointing at two slightly older boys across from them.
“Uncle, they’re bullying people! They stole our classmate’s things and hit him!”
The two older boys rushed over and shoved the girl to the ground.
“That’s what you get for sticking your nose where it doesn’t belong!”
I hurried over. One of the boys tried to swing a fist, but I caught his arm.
I grabbed the arm of the boy who had pushed her too and pulled him away.
“You just wait!” the boy cursed, pointing right at my nose, then ran off with the other one.
“Sure. I’ll be waiting for you in the security office,” I shot back.
The little girl quickly crouched down, gathered up the comic books from the ground, and handed them back to Little Fatty. She even helped wipe his tears.
“If they bully you again, come find me. I’ll protect you.”
That was the first impression Wu Ruoxi left on me-
Generous, warmhearted, like a little sun that could shine all on its own.
I brought the two of them into the security office and handed them a few tissues.
“Uncle, I knew you’d come out and help me!”
“Why?”
Wu Ruoxi stared at the Honor of Kings match open on my phone, her eyes sparkling.
“I always sneak peeks at you playing games. Then I realized you’re actually a really good person. The other security guards always yell at delivery drivers who come in from outside, but you’re the only one who doesn’t bully them. You even invite them in.”
“Yeah. I just think they’ve got it rough too.”
“Exactly! Our teacher taught us that when we’re out in the world, we should help each other!
But I noticed… people around us are always bullying those who are weaker than they are.
Big kids bully little kids.
I don’t like that.”
I was a little surprised. This kid thought more deeply than I’d expected.
“If you want to watch me play from now on, just come in.”
“Thank you, Uncle! But… can I only watch?” Wu Ruoxi asked with a cheeky grin.
“…You can play too, but only after you finish your homework.”
“Awesome!” She quickly patted Little Fatty on the shoulder. “Now we won’t be bored after school anymore!”
Little Fatty timidly held out his comic books.
“If you’re bored, I can lend you these comics too!”
That was the first time there had been laughter in the security office since I started working there.
“Wow, Uncle, you’re so good. I want to play this hero next round too.”
Those two kids gave me more comfort than I could ever have asked for.
Before she left, Wu Ruoxi even reminded me to hurry up and put on my jacket, and told me not to catch a cold no matter what.
She really was a little sun.
How could something like this have happened to her?
