Chapter 6

On the day Feng Shuochuan arrived at the Guiyuan Sect, Feng Zhaomian’s hand was nearly broken from copying books.

He was a traveling physician, carrying a medicine box on his back. He was handsome and possessed a carefree air, with a hint of a smile always lingering at the corners of his eyes. He looked like the kind of person who might simply drift away with the wind.

When Feng Zhaomian saw him from a distance, her entire body tensed up, looking like a cat ready to puff out its fur at any moment.

I intercepted him and pulled him to my side before she could even open her mouth.

“Young Master Feng, a word in private, if you please.”

Feng Shuochuan raised an eyebrow. “Does the Guiyuan Sect always have such strict protocols when inviting someone for a consultation?”

“Being strict is better for everyone,” I lowered my voice. “Especially for your personal safety.”

He was stunned for a moment, then burst into laughter.

Later, the conditions I offered him were simple.

The Guiyuan Sect would pay his consultation fees and invite him to stay on the mountain for three months. He would help tend to the Spirit Beasts, treat the disciples’ old injuries, and serve as a consultant for the Alchemy Room. In exchange, I would ensure that Feng Zhaomian did not do anything illegal or disruptive.

After listening, Feng Shuochuan asked with great interest, “Is that Miss Feng really so terrifying?”

I spoke the honest truth. “Not necessarily to outsiders, but she is very dangerous to you.”

To my surprise, he seemed even more intrigued.

That evening, I forced Feng Zhaomian to sign a document: the *Guarantee Against Illegal Detention, Forced Medication, and Unauthorized Tracking Gu on Feng Shuochuan*. I also made her dismantle that cage in front of me and turn it into an Alchemy Furnace Base.

As she took it apart, Feng Zhaomian gritted her teeth. “Eldest Senior Sister, you’re going to lose me if you keep this up.”

“Before I lose you, unscrew this bolt first.”

She was fuming, but Feng Shuochuan leaned against the doorframe, his shoulders shaking with laughter.

Over the next few days, he went to the Alchemy Room every day. He either complained that her medicine was too bitter or that her fire was too intense. At first, Feng Zhaomian kept a cold face, but eventually, she was so pestered by him that she had no choice but to make changes while cursing him under her breath.

“You’re not a Medical Cultivator; you’re a debt collector.”

“What a coincidence. To me, you look like someone trying to dodge a debt of the heart.”

“Who owes you anything?”

“That life of yours-didn’t I fish it back for you three years ago?”

Feng Zhaomian choked on her words, the tips of her ears turning red bit by bit.

I peeked in from outside twice and finally felt half of the weight lift from my heart.

The most critical moment came half a month later, when Feng Shuochuan mentioned he needed to go down the mountain to gather herbs.

Feng Zhaomian’s knuckles turned white from gripping her hands so hard, but she forced herself to remain still. She only asked, “Are you coming back?”

Feng Shuochuan looked at her for a while, then suddenly reached out and flicked her forehead.

“Of course I’m coming back. I haven’t even collected my three months of fees yet. Why would I run?”

Feng Zhaomian froze on the spot, looking as if she had never heard such straightforward words before.

He took two steps forward, then turned back to add, “Also, stop forging those chains. If you truly want to keep someone, learn how to speak your mind first.”

That night, Feng Zhaomian sat alone at the entrance of the alchemy chamber, reading that copy of *Education of Love* until dawn.

The next day, she came to find me and said gloomily, “Eldest Senior Sister, I think I’ve learned a little bit.”

Looking at the long-absent stability in the depths of her eyes, I suddenly felt that this most treacherous path might actually be steered back toward the right course.
