Chapter 2
Chapter 2
My mom really did show up.
She pedaled her little three-wheeler to the curb, and the moment she saw Chen Wen, her face lit up. “Xiao Wen, you’re here too?”
Chen Wen gave a soft “yeah,” pointed at the grilled sausages in front of him, and curved his lips like he was asking for credit. “Tang Sha asked me to help. We just sold half of them. It wasn’t much.”
…Did my mom praise you for selling them well? “Wasn’t much,” my ass. What a poser.
Obviously, it worked. The folds at the corners of my mom’s eyes deepened from smiling. “Xiao Wen is still the more capable one.”
Chen Wen lowered his head and smiled. “Really, it was nothing.”
I was expressionless.
“What are you standing there for?” My mom looked at me. “Are you really planning to make Xiao Wen sell the rest for you?”
I choked and took the tongs from his hand.
Chen Wen wiped his hands, then turned his head toward my mom. “I still have something to do, Auntie. I’ll get going first.”
“All right, all right. You go on.”
After that, Chen Wen tossed me a “stay sharp” and turned to leave. He was tall, the kind of person who stood out in a crowd. Just his back alone was enough to make people remember him.
There seemed to be some kind of event up ahead, and a lot of people had gathered to watch. Chen Wen slipped into the crowd, and within seconds, I couldn’t see him anymore.
I lowered my eyes. The change on the table was piled high. Not bad. This guy knew what he was doing.
When only a few scattered sausages were left at the stall, Jian Qin came rushing over in a storm, her bangs flipping up and falling back down, all frizzy and wild.
I handed her one. “Want one?”
Jian Qin clicked her tongue and swatted it away. “Eat, eat, eat-eat my ass! I saw Chen Wen!”
I raised an eyebrow, completely baffled. “So what if you saw him?”
“He!” Jian Qin looked extremely worked up, so excited she could barely get the words out. “He’s fighting someone!”
My movements stopped. I instinctively pulled out my phone. “I’m telling his mom-”
Jian Qin snatched it away. “What are you doing?”
Sorry. Reflex. I almost acted on impulse. I smoothed my hair. “Tell me in detail. What’s going on?”
“Strictly speaking, it’s not exactly a fight.” Jian Qin’s expression was complicated. “He’s arm-wrestling someone. Over a girl.”
A girl?
I found that unbelievable. “He’s playing it that exciting?”
“Yes!” Jian Qin loudly agreed.
As I packed up the stall, I muttered under my breath, “Then I have to go take a look.”
What a joke. This was drama involving Chen Wen!
I pushed the little cart and followed Jian Qin all the way to the scene. There were a lot of people gathered around, so I parked the cart in a safe area and skillfully squeezed my way in.
It really was lively. There was a canopy set up, and beneath it, two tables had been pushed together. A pile of empty beer bottles lay by the table legs.
Chen Wen was staring down another man. Beside him stood a girl I didn’t know.
Chen Wen’s eyes and brows were cold. He rarely showed an expression like that.
I took a deep breath, nervous about what was about to happen next.
“This is the last round,” the guy across from him said calmly.
Chen Wen’s lips curved slightly. “Let’s do it.”
The girl beside him seemed to want to stop him, but Chen Wen ignored her.
My heartbeat sped up a little. A moment later, I patted one of the spectators beside me.
“By any chance, would you like a grilled sausage?”
