Chapter 10
Chapter 10
Jiang Haoyan wasn’t wearing a shirt, nor was he wearing pants.
Glistening droplets of water clung to his lean physique. His hair was soaking wet and slicked back, accentuating the sharp lines of his brow and the distinct, spirited edge unique to youth.
He was struck with shock when he saw the Water Man strangling me. A flicker of terror crossed his eyes, yet he lunged forward regardless, tearing the creature off me with a forceful yank.
As Jiang Haoyan and the Water Man became locked in a struggle, I stood frozen for about ten seconds.
It took me a moment to snap out of it. I hurriedly reached into my bag and pulled out another magical tool.
It was a yellow Command Flag-triangular, with serrated red edges and the four characters for “Summon All Gods” inscribed upon it. Gripping the Command Flag, I whispered an incantation. A moment later, a current of air manifested in the space before me.
The current swirled into a vortex, appearing as a yellow haze filled with fine, floating dust.
The vortex spun faster and faster, drawing in all the dust from the air until it condensed into a small ball revolving within the current. I caught the ball in my hand and hurled it at the Water Man with all my might.
This time, the ball finally hit its mark.
I saw a section of the creature’s shoulder cave in abruptly, and the surrounding water was stained yellow.
Determined to press the advantage while it was weakened, I gripped my Dragon-Seeking Ruler and lunged, intending to give it another blow.
The Water Man had been pinning Jiang Haoyan to the floor, but as I pounced, the creature unexpectedly vanished. I ended up landing right on top of Jiang Haoyan. I watched helplessly as the Water Man collapsed back into a simple puddle and slithered out through the gap under the door, leaving only a small trail behind in the room.
“Hmph, at least you’re smart enough to run fast.”
“I’ll let you off since your cultivation couldn’t have been easy, but if I’d had time to bring out the Breathing Earth, I would have buried you right here today.”
As soon as the words left my mouth, the puddle under the door gap vanished with a “whoosh.” The carpet by the entrance was instantly bone-dry.
I let out a sigh of relief, dropped the Dragon-Seeking Ruler, and rubbed my neck. Man, that thing really had a grip on me. In all my years, I’d never suffered such a loss; I wasn’t done with that creature yet.
“Ahem, Qiao Moyu-could you… get up first?”
Jiang Haoyan was lying on the floor, his head turned away as if he didn’t dare look at me. His face was flushed a deep, purplish red. I stared at his abs for another couple of seconds before giving them a reassuring pat.
“Oh, it’s fine, it’s fine. We’re people of the martial world-what’s the difference between skin and bone in the end? Don’t sweat the details.”
I stood up, and Jiang Haoyan quickly pushed himself up with both hands. He then scrambled toward the bathroom to put some clothes on.
