“Ling Ling, you dance so well. Have you studied ballet before?”

The Class Monitor looked down at Ling Ling’s toes, his face full of bashfulness.

I finally couldn’t hold it in anymore. “Class Monitor, she-”

“Ahem, Qiao Moyu, it’s so late. Why aren’t you going back to sleep?”

The Class Monitor’s face flushed with embarrassment as he frantically winked at me and mouthed words.

“Third wheel, hurry up and leave already.”

I looked at the Class Monitor with a complicated expression.

“Are you sure?”

At this moment, the Female Ghost had her head resting on Ling Ling’s shoulder, her blackened pupils staring straight at the Class Monitor.

In this game of three, not a single person was redundant.

The Class Monitor kept his upper lip still while his lower lip twitched repeatedly toward the left. His facial expressions were becoming distorted as he gestured for me to leave.

Seeing that I remained unmoved, he finally gave in.

“I’ll give you a copy of the class notes for every single lesson.”

“Alright, Class Monitor. You two enjoy your dance. I’m off.”

I smiled and waved goodbye.

The baleful energy on this Female Ghost wasn’t heavy; she wouldn’t be able to hurt anyone in a short amount of time. Feeling reassured, I returned to my room to rummage through my backpack, pulling out two Five Emperors Coins and slipping them into my pocket.

I returned to the deck no more than two minutes later, but in that short span of time, both the Class Monitor and Ling Ling had vanished.

The deck was empty. Moonlight like liquid silver illuminated a pool of bright red blood on the floor.

“Ling Ling! Zhang Yu!”

The yacht’s deck wasn’t large. I walked to the railing and looked down. The water was pitch black. On the silent sea, there was nothing but the spray of the waves.

I could only head back toward the cabins. After walking a short distance, I indeed heard the Class Monitor’s voice.

“Ling Ling, I’m fine. It doesn’t hurt at all. Hiss-”

Inside the cockpit, there was a small circular booth by the window. The Class Monitor was sitting there with one leg propped up on the back of the pilot’s seat. There was a deep gash on his calf.

Ling Ling stood beside him. She stared down at his calf for a moment before suddenly leaning her mouth toward it.

“Hiss-”

The Class Monitor took a sharp breath. His toes went taut, his five toes curling tight. His hands gripped the booth seat firmly as his fair face turned bright red.

“Ling… isn’t this moving a bit too fast?”

“It’s way too fast! Dammit, I thought your cultivation wasn’t easy and intended to spare you once, but you actually dare to touch my person!”

I strode over and clamped my hand over Ling Ling’s mouth. The Female Ghost behind her instantly bared her teeth.

This was just an ordinary Wandering Soul.

Everyone has a destiny. As the saying goes, ‘If the King of Hell wants you dead by the third watch, he won’t leave you until the fifth.’ In a person’s life, the time of death is predetermined.

When a person’s natural lifespan reaches its end, a Ghost Envoy will arrive on time to collect them and take their soul to the Underworld. Some people have special constitutions where their souls cannot leave the body after death; in those cases, a Ghost Envoy needs to hook the soul out.

Those who die from accidents become Wandering Ghosts, also known as Drifting Spirits. Because there are specific times designated for reincarnation, if you die prematurely before your natural lifespan is exhausted, your soul cannot reincarnate. You can only remain in the human world, drifting aimlessly.

To manage these Wandering Ghosts, the Underworld specifically built the City of Wrongful Death. Day and Night Patrols roam the human world to hunt them down; once found, they are taken to the City of Wrongful Death to wait for their turn to reincarnate.

However, with the population explosion in recent years, there have been all sorts of accidental deaths like car crashes, as well as suicides due to mental illness. The numbers are too high for the Ghost Envoys to keep up with, so the number of Wandering Ghosts drifting outside has increased.

Among them, those who die violent deaths harbor strong resentment and easily become Vengeful Ghosts. When a Vengeful Ghost harms people and the Ghost Envoys can’t make it in time, there are Daoist Priests in the human world to deal with them.

Then there is another special category: those who commit suicide because they are tired of living. They don’t have anyone they particularly hate, and their resentment isn’t heavy. After death, they simply wander around the human world. The Female Ghost from just now was this kind of ordinary Wandering Soul.

Wandering Souls usually don’t harm people, but this Female Ghost had actually developed a craving for blood.

Once a ghost is tainted with human blood, it easily undergoes a baleful transformation. When that happens, she will become a Vengeful Ghost and start taking lives.
