Chapter 1

My name is Wang Dachui, and I am a petite, charming beauty.

The first time my adoptive father saw me, he said I was so beautiful I took his breath away. He paid on the spot and bought me from my father.

Two hours later, he regretted it.

Because while I was driving his carriage, I snapped his leg with one crack of the whip. When he went back to my father to return the goods, my father had already moved away with the entire family and vanished without a trace.

My adoptive father raised me for five years, during which I ate through every last bit of his fortune.

Fortunately, I had come of age. He could not wait to use his connections and stuff me into the Ninth Prince’s estate.

“The Ninth Prince is rich. Even if you eat ten tubs of rice in one meal, he can afford to feed you.”

My adoptive father had long since forgotten why he’d bought a beauty in the first place. All he wanted was to get me off his hands and free himself from the misery of not being able to afford me.

Having food to eat-being able to eat my fill-was my one and only goal in this life, so I went happily to the Ninth Prince’s estate.

Although I did not see the Ninth Prince that night, I really did eat until I was full. My adoptive father had not lied to me.

He was a good man!

Never in my wildest dreams did I expect that the very next morning, the Ninth Prince would be thrown into the Imperial Prison for treason. And as the Ninth Prince’s only woman, I was locked up with him.

In the dim prison cell, I saw the legendary delicate and frail Ninth Prince for the first time.

He was quite good-looking. This was the first time I had ever met someone prettier than me.

Only then did the Ninth Prince learn of my existence. He took a sip of tea and asked leisurely, “So you are the beauty Lord Xu sent to me?”

I nodded, then solemnly asked the question I had been holding in for ages. “Your Highness, when do we eat?”

I had been dragged here right after waking up, and now even lunchtime had passed. I was starving.

I could live without anything, but I could not live without food.

The Ninth Prince paused, then lifted his handsome brow.

“Do you know what it means to be brought here?”

I nodded, then asked him again when we were going to eat.

Even if we were going to be beheaded, they should at least let us eat our fill, right?

“Isn’t the last meal before execution supposed to be lavish? When are they serving it?”

The corner of the Ninth Prince’s mouth twitched. He closed his eyes and ignored me.

He probably had no way to get food either. After all, he was a prisoner now too and could no longer order people around.

Since I could not rely on him, I had to think of something myself.

“Hey, big brother! It’s already lunchtime. How come you haven’t brought us food yet?”

The jailer looked at me in stunned silence, then tossed me two cold, hard steamed buns. I had originally planned to eat them both myself, but in the end, I painfully split one with the Ninth Prince.

One steamed bun wasn’t even enough to fill the gaps between my teeth. The Ninth Prince gave me his as well, but after I finished it, I was still hungry.

So in the middle of the night, I asked the Ninth Prince through my tears, “Do you want to escape from prison? I want to eat Zhang’s Big Pork Hock. If we leave now, he probably hasn’t closed his stall yet. We should make it in time.”

The Ninth Prince slowly opened his eyes and patted my head.

“Have you fainted from hunger? There are layers upon layers of iron cells here. Even with wings, you wouldn’t be able to fly out.”

I looked around the Imperial Prison, then confirmed with the Ninth Prince one more time whether he wanted to escape.

The Ninth Prince was very impatient.

“Go dream quietly. Don’t disturb my rest.”

Boom-

I punched a hole through the wall. The Ninth Prince opened his eyes and watched helplessly as half of that wall collapsed under my fist.

Amid the smoke and dust filling the air, I hoisted the Ninth Prince over my shoulder and charged straight out. Behind me, the Imperial Prison came crashing down, reduced to rubble.

In the chaos, the Ninth Prince grabbed my shoulder.

“Zhang’s Big Pork Hock is to the east!”
