Chapter 4
Chapter 4
I narrowed my eyes and secretly studied the intern.
His head was lowered as he typed away at the keyboard with utmost focus. His fingertips were faintly flushed, but unlike his usual reserved, shy expression, the intern typed incredibly fast.
The intern, Bai Ruo, suddenly froze. Then he carefully turned his head, as if he had eyes on the back of his head, and glanced back at me.
He pressed his lips together and gave me a confused yet polite smile.
I whipped my head back around. I moved so abruptly that my swivel chair creaked.
“Yu Wenwen, are you playing merry-go-round on your chair?”
At my desk, someone tapped lightly with their index and middle fingers pressed together.
I looked up. The big boss, dressed in an expensive suit, was leaning slightly forward, his expression a little cold. He looked at me, then suddenly tilted his head and raised an eyebrow. Like a bad-tempered supermodel, even the most casual movement from him looked like he was striking a runway pose.
“You seem very excited.”
“N-no, boss.” I stammered, and the moment I opened my mouth, I caught the sandalwood scent of Xue Niwen’s perfume again.
Xue Niwen narrowed his eyes and suddenly turned to look in the direction I had been staring at.
Then, as if he did not understand what he was seeing, he let out a faint snort and walked away.
For some reason, his retreating figure seemed to carry a hint of emotion.
Bewildered, I turned my head. At some point, Bai Ruo had sent the document he had been typing to his supervisor. Now he was gently kneading the back of his neck with his right hand, stretching his back like a cat as he let out a tiny yawn.
The corners of his eyes were tinged with a sleepy, misty pink.
He suddenly stiffened. Realizing I was watching him, he rather embarrassedly swallowed the yawn back, his cheeks bright red as he shook his head at me, made a “shh” gesture, then immediately turned around and typed so fast sparks practically flew from the keyboard.
-Don’t tell anyone I was slacking off.
Judging by his expression and my own experience as a corporate drone, that was probably what Bai Ruo had meant.
For no reason at all, I thought of the reaction image Drink More Hot Water often used-“( o )”.
I smiled. Then my phone chimed with a notification: the latest update from Hot Water.
“Aaaaaah- I talked to her again today. I’m so nervous. But… she doesn’t already have someone she likes, does she? ( o )”
The comments below were full of readers cheering him on.
“Drink More Hot Water, bring out the courage you usually have when writing fanfic! If you used even one or two of the flirting techniques from your stories, you’d definitely succeed.”
“Author, go for it.”
I was just about to reply along with them when I suddenly felt like I heard a strange creak, creak, creak.
Puzzled, I looked up toward the boss’s office.
The frosted glass blurred most of my view, but I could see Xue Niwen seemingly lying back in his boss chair, one foot touching the carpet, spinning in circles with a gloomy, irritable air.
I rubbed my eyes. I had to be seeing things.
But that familiar crown of hair kept circling. Round and round, turning along with the wheels of the chair.
As if I couldn’t control myself, my mind filled in the whole scene: the tall, imposing big boss, fierce and intimidating, squatting on his chair with his lips pouted as he stared at the ceiling and spun in circles.
For some reason, it felt as if a soft little cat paw pad had squishily stepped right on the most sensitive spot of my heart.
Expressionless, I slapped my own face hard a few times.
Yu Wenwen, work. Work comes first.
