Chapter 5
Chapter 5
My car kept moving forward. The mountain road grew quieter and quieter, as if even the animals in the mountains had gone to sleep.
The girl, on the other hand, seemed a lot more energetic. She looked at me with curiosity. “Mister, are you out looking for someone this late because it’s urgent?”
“Yeah. My client is in a hurry. She’s really worried about her friend.”
“Is her friend sick?”
“Something like that.” I glanced sideways at the girl. “What about you? Do you have any friends?”
“I don’t.”
The girl answered almost on instinct, but as soon as the words left her mouth, her brows knitted together again.
“Jiajia, don’t keep distracting him while he’s driving.”
Just then, Luo Ying, who was sitting behind me, suddenly leaned close to the back of my seat. A cold breath brushed past my ear.
“Brother Long, please drive a little faster. Just get us out of this stretch of mountain road, and we can call a car home ourselves.”
The moment she finished speaking, a blinding light shone in from outside the car.
It was that red sports car again!
The familiar roar of its engine closed in once more, but this time it wasn’t behind us. It was right in front of us!
At some point, that red sports car had turned onto the downhill lane.
Logically speaking, it shouldn’t have been able to pass us and turn onto the downhill road first.
There hadn’t been any turnoffs along the way, either.
And yet there it was.
It was ahead and to our right, its headlights shining straight at the front of my car. I couldn’t see the road ahead. I was driving almost entirely on instinct.
“Brother Long!” Old Mu and the others were scared out of their wits.
The girl pressed herself tightly against the passenger seatback, both hands gripping the seat belt.
Just then, the red sports car actually crossed over the guardrail between the two lanes.
The driver of that sports car, mad as a lunatic, showed no intention of slowing down. Directly in front of us, he came charging straight at us.
“Fuck!”
I cursed. At this point, turning the wheel was useless. I might as well ram straight into it!
I stomped on the gas. Old Mu, Luo Ying, and Mu Xu all screamed one after another, while the girl in the passenger seat only squeezed her eyes shut.
The instant the cars collided, the red sports car warped violently. In the blink of an eye, it went from a luxury supercar to a battered skeleton.
The sports car driver’s howl mingled with a heavy crash that seemed to come from the distant past, along with the sound of the engine gradually dying.
Then that battered skeleton shattered with a thunderous boom, turning into a cloud of red smoke that shrouded the hood of my car.
I kept a firm grip on the steering wheel, judging the direction ahead through every gap that let me glimpse the road surface.
Seeing the red smoke gradually fade, I thought we had made it through this hurdle. But to my surprise, the passenger door was silently opened!
