Chapter 13
Chapter 13
For a moment, rage burned through me. In truth, I had already had my suspicions on the way here.
Could the disaster that had befallen Uncle Cheng have something to do with Wu Da’s death fifteen years ago?
But I couldn’t bring myself to believe it. Fifteen years had passed. Could Wu Da really have that much power? Even if he hated us, why wait fifteen years before making his move?
Now, judging from the prophecy, it seemed to have something to do with Big Black’s death.
Was it because Big Black, who had protected his master, was dead that the vengeful evil had come knocking on Uncle Cheng’s door?
But since ancient times, who had ever heard of saving someone only to save an enemy?
Uncle Cheng read it too and gave a bitter smile. “Forget it. The prophecy is only half complete. This is the fate Heaven has given me. But at least I saved you, Changdong. I don’t regret it.”
The moment he finished speaking, Uncle Cheng’s frail body trembled again. Then he curled in on himself and collapsed to the floor, strange clicking sounds rattling in his throat.
I was just about to draw the Soul-Whip when the girl moved faster than me. She snatched up the paper the prophecy had just been written on, crumpled it several times, and shoved it straight into Uncle Cheng’s mouth.
After lifting Uncle Cheng’s neck and striking him on the back, the girl made him swallow the wad of paper. His throat bobbed again and again, and the man actually eased up quite a bit.
The girl checked Uncle Cheng’s pupils, then felt his pulse. She looked up at me. “There’s nothing else I can do. This trick can only buy a little time. Whatever this man has attracted is far too sinister. Midnight tonight is the final deadline. If you can’t break this situation by then, no one will be able to save this grandpa’s life.”
“How do we break it? If I find the culprit’s relatives, can we break it?”
The girl shrugged. “I don’t know either. My Master’s prophecies can’t be taken only at face value.”
“But since the prophecy mentioned that what happened fifteen years ago was the cause, maybe you can trace it back to the source. You might be able to find a solution.”
“All right. Thank you.”
I supported Uncle Cheng and was about to leave, but the girl handed me her phone. “Leave me your contact information. My Master left behind a lot of books. I’ll help you look through them too and see if I can find another way.”
“All right, thank you. And please accept my condolences.”
I exchanged contact information with the girl. Her name was Tang Ling.
Although she had been very cold to us at first, in the end, she had still taken pity on us. She was a kind girl after all.

Soul-Whip 12: The Doctrine of Good Karma
That year, I was hauling freight through the Northeast when a snowstorm trapped us on the road. In the blinding snow, I heard someone knock on my truck door.
I opened it, and the snow...
