Chapter 9
Chapter 9
Before becoming a ghost, Yun Youyou had been a law-abiding citizen who had never once broken the law.
Asking her to kill someone now was truly pushing her beyond her limits.
Teacher Lu rolled her eyes. “I didn’t tell you to strangle them to death, just to scare them. Of course, it would be even better if you did strangle them. Don’t think about slacking off; I’ll be watching you from the shadows.”
Yun Youyou had originally planned to feign compliance while secretly defying the order, but now that plan was completely ruined.
The moon was dark and the wind was high; leaves rustled in the breeze.
A sneaky shadow was cast against the mottled white wall.
Yun Youyou walked to the door of the confinement room.
Even though she had been a ghost for a while now, she was still more accustomed to acting like a human.
To this day, she still didn’t know why she had suddenly turned into a female ghost, nor did she know how she had died.
A heavy iron door was tightly locked, with three glaring words painted in red: “Confinement Room.”
Yun Youyou leaned in closer and gave it a sniff.
There was no pungent smell of paint, but rather the metallic stench of blood.
Yun Youyou quickly took a step back.
She cautiously merged half of her body into the wall, clutching a thick hemp rope in her hand.
She had no idea where Teacher Lu might be watching her from.
Yun Youyou peeked out with just her eyes, peering into the confinement room.
The room was pitch black, its walls encased in bare iron sheets without a single window.
The floor was mottled with blood that had already congealed into dark brown clots.
In the center were two iron frame beds. The paint on them had already peeled off, leaving them so filthy that even a junkyard would have found them repulsive.
Two people lay quietly on the beds.
It looked like they were asleep.
Yun Youyou approached with the hemp rope in hand, hesitating between the two beds.
The room was pitch black without a single ray of light, making it impossible to see their faces clearly.
Yun Youyou didn’t want to find Ji Lin; she only wanted to find Wang Yuanyou.
Wang Yuanyou was a good comrade; he would surely forgive her for her difficult position.
But she really couldn’t see their faces.
Just then, the person lying on the right turned over.
Yun Youyou’s heart settled instantly. I choose you!
Ji Lin didn’t look like the type of person who would toss and turn in his sleep, so this person had to be the lively and active Wang Yuanyou.
Yun Youyou felt a strange sense of confidence.
In the darkness, Ji Lin silently opened his eyes.
He had been awake since Yun Youyou was still lingering at the door.
He didn’t get up, wanting to see what exactly Yun Youyou intended to do.
To his surprise, Yun Youyou had been inside for a long time without making a sound, simply standing there motionless.
Ji Lin deliberately turned over, and Yun Youyou finally moved.
She held something in her hand as she slowly floated toward the head of Ji Lin’s bed.
Ji Lin lay flat on the bed, his expression calm.
Under his watchful gaze, Yun Youyou cautiously looped a hemp rope around his neck, her hands taking extra care not to touch him.
Ji Lin: ???
“What are you doing?”
The boy’s cold, sharp voice suddenly rang in Yun Youyou’s ear.
Yun Youyou jumped, her hands shaking in fright, which caused the rope around his neck to tighten involuntarily.
Caught off guard, Ji Lin was nearly strangled to death by her.
Frowning, he grabbed the rope with one hand and looked coldly at Yun Youyou.
“Are you trying to strangle me?”
Yun Youyou quickly let go. “I’m not, I didn’t, this is just a misunderstanding!”
“A misunderstanding?”
Ji Lin sneered, glancing at the rope in his hand. “Then what is this?”
Well, about that…
Yun Youyou’s eyes flickered as she began to lie through her teeth.
“Actually, I’ve admired you for a long time, so I wanted to give you a necklace. But I didn’t know what length to buy, so I found a piece of string to measure you.”
Ji Lin actually laughed this time.
“You… admire me?”
Since entering the Game, Ji Lin had never heard anything so preposterous.
Yun Youyou nodded frantically. “I really, really admire you! Even though I’m just a ghost, I still have a heart that appreciates beauty!”
Ji Lin gave Yun Youyou a knowing look, but he didn’t call her out directly.
“Fine, I’ll take your word for it for now.”
Having escaped a disaster, Yun Youyou let out a sigh of relief and smiled.
“Then I’ll be going now.”
She turned around, wanting to slip away.
“Wait.”
Yun Youyou sighed inwardly.
It was always “wait” this and “wait” that. Couldn’t he just say everything at once?
“Are you cursing me?”
A faint voice came from behind her.
A thousand “WTFs” flashed through Yun Youyou’s mind!
What was going on? Did this man have mind-reading powers too?
But it was also possible he was just bluffing.
Realizing this, Yun Youyou turned back with a smile, her voice as gentle as water. “How could I? You’re so wonderful, I wouldn’t have the heart to curse you.”
Ji Lin really had been bluffing, and he felt a touch of regret when she didn’t show any weakness.
“Didn’t you just say you were going to give me a necklace?” Ji Lin asked suddenly.
Yun Youyou nodded hesitantly.
She had indeed said that. Was there a problem?
“Shouldn’t a gift be something the recipient likes?”
Yun Youyou nodded hesitantly again.
Ji Lin’s scattered, unpredictable questions were starting to confuse her.
Seeing how cooperative she was, the corners of Ji Lin’s mouth curled up slightly. “It just so happens there’s a necklace I like.”
“What necklace?”
Ji Lin tapped on his bracelet a few times. “I think this one is pretty good.”
Yun Youyou leaned in to take a look.
It was her first time seeing a Player’s shop, and she was curious for a moment. But when she saw the necklace Ji Lin was pointing at, her pupils practically shook.
It wasn’t until today that Yun Youyou realized she might have a phobia of zeros. The dense row of zeros following the price made her head spin.
What kind of invincible, cosmic-tier necklace could possibly cost this much?
Yun Youyou’s eyes widened as she scanned the shop description inch by inch.
This was a necklace that could withstand a major Boss; even the most powerful ghost would need a day and a night to fully break through its defenses. It also had a health regeneration function, making it an essential choice for travel, arson, and looting.
Penniless, Yun Youyou could only blink her innocent eyes. “Isn’t this necklace a… *tiny* bit expensive?”
“Is it?” Ji Lin thought for a moment. “But a loved one is priceless.”
“As the saying goes, someone who spends money on you might not truly love you, but someone who refuses to spend money on you definitely doesn’t love you. So, were you lying to me just now?”
Ji Lin’s tone gradually grew cold.
This massive accusation nearly crushed Yun Youyou.
She obviously couldn’t admit it. Otherwise, Ji Lin would just use a skill and turn her into ash.
“No, no, no! I really do love you!”
“It’s just a necklace, right? I’ll buy it for you! *Sob*… I’ll sell everything I own to buy it for you. I’ll go scavenge for scrap metal tomorrow!”
