Chapter 6
Yun Youyou nodded.
“How about I help Teacher Yun look for him?”
The Dean stared at Ji Lin for a moment before actually nodding in agreement.
Seeing this, Wang Yuanyou also spoke up, thick-skinned.
“Dean, how about I go along too?”
The Dean sneered. “You stay right where you are.”
Wang Yuanyou sat in his seat looking aggrieved, watching Ji Lin and Yun Youyou disappear behind the door one after the other.
The Dean was clearly a difficult, powerful ghost; Wang Yuanyou didn’t dare to act rashly.
And so, Yun Youyou was forced to set out on a search mission with Ji Lin.
Only a single dim lamp lit the corridor, casting an eerie glow over the two of them.
The atmosphere was heavy with silence.
Yun Youyou kept a certain distance from Ji Lin, fearing he might suddenly find her-a ghost-unpleasant to look at and decide to exorcise her on the spot.
Although she didn’t know exactly how powerful Ji Lin was, he was definitely stronger than her.
“Do you know where that Player is hiding?”
Ji Lin glanced at her sideways. “Aren’t you a ghost? Why are you asking me?”
“Who says ghosts can automatically guess where people are hiding?”
The two made eye contact for a moment before silently looking away.
They checked several classrooms in a row but found no one.
Yun Youyou and Ji Lin then moved to the paths near the teaching building to continue their search.
The pitch-black path was deserted-not even a ghost in sight-and a chilling wind gusted occasionally, giving Yun Youyou goosebumps.
She’d have to give the Game some feedback next time.
Could the temperature in the Instance be turned up a bit? It was so cold even a ghost couldn’t stand it.
A pale hand suddenly reached out from the bushes and grabbed Yun Youyou’s ankle.
“Holy crap!”
Terrified, Yun Youyou jumped to the side and slammed right into Ji Lin.
If Ji Lin hadn’t caught her, she probably would have face-planted again.
Yun Youyou stood to the side, her heart still racing.
Why was the human next to her unfazed while she, a ghost, was constantly getting spooked?
The hand seemed startled as well and quickly retracted.
Ji Lin stepped forward and parted the bushes.
A pale, terrified face was revealed-it was the male Player they had been looking for.
He had been just one minute away from making it to that damn Evening Self-Study.
Unfortunately, he was just a little too late; when he reached the third floor, he saw a crowd of ghosts standing at the door of Classroom 303.
Knowing he had no chance of getting inside, he had no choice but to grit his teeth and run back down.
As long as he hid well enough and survived the night, he should be fine.
He had been hiding in the bushes until he spotted Ji Lin’s face through a gap.
He instinctively reached out, wanting to get Ji Lin to stop.
Who could have guessed that instead of Ji Lin, he would grab the female ghost’s ankle?
Seeing Yun Youyou jump in fright because of him, the boy let go nervously, a look of confusion in his eyes.
Were ghosts these days really this cowardly?
Yun Youyou cleared her throat, trying to salvage her dignity.
She looked at the boy with a serious expression. “Do you realize you’ve violated the School Rules? Skipping Evening Self-Study without cause. The Dean will punish you personally. Come back with me at once.”
The boy’s legs went weak, and he collapsed miserably to the ground.
Falling into the hands of ghosts never ended well.
“No! I’m not going!”
The boy struggled to his feet and began to run for his life.
Yun Youyou instinctively moved to chase after him.
“Wait.”
A cold, clear voice rang out.
Both Yun Youyou and the boy froze in their tracks.
Ji Lin pulled a small puppet out of his pocket and casually tossed it onto the ground.
The moment it landed, the puppet’s limbs stretched out fast, like a balloon being pumped full of air. In the blink of an eye, it became a person who looked exactly like the boy.
Yun Youyou and the boy both stood there with their mouths hanging open, utterly dumbstruck.
What kind of top-tier item was this?
“Hello, my name is Liang Fei.”
The puppet smiled warmly and held out a hand to Yun Youyou.
It looked way too real.
Yun Youyou reached out and shook it.
The texture of the skin, the temperature-there was no difference from a living person.
“This is an item exchanged from the Mall. The effect lasts twelve hours. Later, you find a place to hide. I’ll take this back,” Ji Lin said, giving a few simple instructions.
Liang Fei looked like he was about to cry. He grabbed Ji Lin’s hand in both of his.
“Bro! From now on, you’re my only bro!”
An item this insane had to be worth a fortune.
Ji Lin could’ve just left him to die, but instead he was willing to burn something this precious to save him. Handsome and kind-an absolute saint.
Seeing how stiff Ji Lin looked, Yun Youyou figured he probably didn’t like being touched.
Liang Fei sniffled and cried for a good while.
Then he turned and saw Yun Youyou, and only then did it hit him-the Homeroom Teacher seemed to be a ghost too.
Was it really okay to plot so loudly right in front of a ghost?
Liang Fei leaned close to Ji Lin’s ear and muttered a few words under his breath.
Ji Lin shifted and shot Yun Youyou a sidelong glance.
Yun Youyou promptly turned away on her own, pretending she hadn’t seen anything.
She was a ghost with excellent social awareness.
The two of them brought the fake Liang Fei back.
The Dean saw Liang Fei and let out a vicious grin. “A student as disobedient as you… should I slice you into thin pieces and boil you in hotpot, or should I just pry off your skullcap and eat your fresh, tender brain?”
“Liang Fei” put on a perfectly timed flicker of fear.
The girl sitting below had no idea this Liang Fei was a puppet impostor. Crying, she shook her head hard. “No! Don’t eat him! If someone has to be punished, punish me instead!”
The Dean ignored her and suddenly turned to call on Yun Youyou. “Teacher Yun, what do you think?”
Being singled out by her superior, Yun Youyou could only step forward and study “Liang Fei” with her eyes.
“If you slice him into meat, blood will get everywhere. That’ll be a pain to clean up. If you crack his skull open, you’d have to shave off all his hair first, otherwise it’ll ruin the appetite. Better to just marinate him raw. Add some soy sauce, baijiu, and fish sauce, then sprinkle a little chopped scallion and cilantro. Let him sit overnight-by tomorrow, that meat will be tender and silky!”
The ghosts behind her started drooling.
They usually ate people the crude way-rip an arm off and chomp. None of them had ever heard of something this refined.
“Good, good, good! We’ll do it the way Teacher Yun says!” the Dean said, smacking his lips as he praised her suggestion.
“Then I’ll leave this matter to you.”
Yun Youyou hurriedly refused.
This puppet’s effect only lasted twelve hours. If tomorrow came and the “raw-marinated” Liang Fei was gone, wouldn’t these ghosts tear her apart and swallow her whole?
“I still have to keep an eye on all the unruly students in my class. Dean, why don’t you have someone else handle it?”
“Fine. Then you do it,” the Dean said, turning around and casually pointing at another teacher.
Just like that, the group of ghosts came in a rush and left in a rush, disappearing in no time.
As for that girl-she’d already been scared into fainting the moment Yun Youyou started talking about making raw marinated meat.
