Chapter 54
Chapter 54
The boy next to him calmly wiped the spit off his face. “No, the one going to his death should be you.”
The Tall Man: “#%@&*!”
No matter how angry he was, there was no way to start over. If time could turn back, he would definitely choose to keep his mouth shut tight. At the thought of having to assemble a Skeleton, the Tall Man wanted nothing more than to give himself a few hard slaps across the face.
But now, he could only assemble the Skeleton while fighting back tears.
Time flew by.
By the time Su Gou woke up, he found the base completely empty.
Strange, were they all still out on guard duty?
A flicker of relief touched Su Gou’s heart. His team members had finally grown up; they could now hold their own. He had been prepared to be woken up, but to his surprise, no one had disturbed him until he woke up naturally.
Su Gou felt a sense of pride, like a father watching his children finally come of age. He ran his fingers through his messy hair a few times and headed toward the door, intending to give his team members a good word of praise.
Just as he reached the door, he heard the faint sound of rustling and whispering outside. Su Gou thought for a moment and decided to lean his head against the door panel, wanting to hear what they were talking about.
The voices from outside drifted through the door, muffled but audible.
“This should be its femur, right?”
“No, this should be its arm. How could a femur be this thin?”
“Holy crap! Be careful! Look, you just crushed its finger bone!”
“I did not! This is clearly osteoporosis caused by its own calcium deficiency. What does that have to do with me?”
“Stop arguing, you guys. Its skull is still lying over there. Go pick that head up.”
Su Gou: ???
The more he listened, the more he felt something was wrong. His handsome eyebrows knitted together into a tight knot.
Femur? Arm? Skull?
He had only taken a nap-how had things outside escalated into a criminal case? Could it be that his team members had killed someone outside and were now dismembering the body?!
Su Gou’s head spun; he felt like the whole world was turning upside down. He didn’t have time to think further and hurriedly threw the door open and rushed out.
The people outside were startled by his sudden movement.
Su Gou stood there, swaying, looking at the scene before him in disbelief.
His team members were squatting on the ground along with Yun Youyou. In front of them was a shattered, broken corpse-there wasn’t even any flesh left, only a pile of scattered white bones. They really were dismembering a body; they had even stripped the meat off the bones!
“W-what are you doing?!” Su Gou asked, his voice cracking.
The five of them looked at each other.
The Tall Man quickly dropped the skull in his hand to prove his innocence. “We didn’t do anything.”
The two female Players hurriedly shrunk back behind Yun Youyou.
Su Gou stared intently at Yun Youyou.
Yun Youyou: “…Actually, we’re playing with building blocks.”
“Building blocks?” Su Gou let out a cold laugh. “Do you think I’m blind? Can’t I see that’s a pile of human bones?”
Yun Youyou responded calmly, “This is Ghost Realm Lego. You wouldn’t understand.”
Su Gou: …
What the hell was “Ghost Realm Lego”? This was the first time he had ever heard someone describe a Skeleton in such a refined and unconventional way.
Su Gou felt like his head was about to explode with rage.
“I’m asking you right now: did you kill this person?”
The five of them shook their heads in unison.
Su Gou finally breathed a sigh of relief. Thank goodness. As long as his team members weren’t homicidal maniacs, it was fine.
“Then where did this pile of human bones come from?”
Su Gou carefully scrutinized the skeletal frame on the ground, which had been partially assembled into a humanoid shape.
The Tall Man sheepishly told Su Gou about his idea to play Truth or Dare.
After hearing the explanation, Su Gou gritted his teeth and slapped him on the back.
“You just love looking for trouble, don’t you!”
The Tall Man didn’t have much pride when it came to Su Gou; he just stood there looking aggrieved, letting Su Gou hit him.
It was a relief that nothing serious had happened, otherwise, a thousand regrets wouldn’t have done any good.
“Are you okay?”
Su Gou walked over to Yun Youyou with a dark expression, trying to see if she was injured with his own eyes.
She had been the closest person to the Skeleton Ghost, and therefore the one in the most danger.
“I’m fine. I just slapped its head right off.”
Su Gou let out a scoff. “Stop bragging. How could you have that much strength with those thin arms of yours? It’s a good thing nothing happened today. In the future, if anyone asks you to do something like that, don’t agree to that idiot’s ideas.”
Yun Youyou tried to prove her strength, but Su Gou had already turned around to give the Tall Man another kick before dragging him in front of her.
“Apologize to her, now!” Su Gou commanded coldly.
As the ‘idiot’ in Su Gou’s words, the Tall Man had no choice but to apologize with a red face.
“I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have asked you to do something so dangerous.”
He really had messed up this time.
Su Gou still wasn’t satisfied. “What’s with the tiny voice? Are you roleplaying as a mosquito? Louder!”
The Tall Man took a deep breath and shouted at the top of his lungs, “I’m sorry! I’ll never do anything like that again!”
Only then was Su Gou satisfied. He turned back to Yun Youyou.
“Do you accept this apology? If you don’t, it’s fine. It’s your choice; you can decide for yourself.”
Yun Youyou hadn’t been that angry to begin with.
“Alright, I accept.”
Seeing how easygoing Yun Youyou was, the Tall Man felt even more ashamed and hid behind Su Gou, only to be glared at again.
“Fine. You guys haven’t slept all night. Get inside and rest for a bit.”
Su Gou ushered the group further into the area.
“What about this Skeleton? Are we just going to leave it here?”
The Tall Man was a bit reluctant to leave it behind.
Anyone who has played with Legos knows that even if you aren’t interested at first, once you start building, you want to finish. If you stop halfway, it feels like an itch you can’t scratch; you’ll think about it while eating and sleeping.
Su Gou glanced at it casually and said with disgust, “Then you guys carry it in. What’s so fun about this piece of junk?”
Su Gou was dismissive, but the others treated it like a treasure, huffing and puffing as they carried it into the base.
The others all had sleeping bags, but Yun Youyou didn’t.
“If you don’t mind, you can use mine. I’m not going to sleep anyway.”
Su Gou mentioned it as if it were an afterthought, his tone cold. However, a closer look would reveal his slightly reddened ears and the way he pointedly looked into the distance, avoiding Yun Youyou’s gaze.
Just as Yun Youyou was about to decline, the Short-haired Female Player suddenly said excitedly, “I have an extra sleeping bag! Youyou, come over here!”
Luckily, she had brought an extra one and could lend it to Yun Youyou.
Su Gou’s heart was suddenly filled with a mix of complicated emotions.
He felt a sudden tightness in his chest. He wasn’t sure if it was just because the basement was too stuffy.
The base soon became very quiet, with only the sound of several people’s shallow breathing.
Su Gou sat to the side with his legs crossed, bored out of his mind.
There was no internet here, so there was nothing to do but space out.
As Su Gou’s gaze wandered aimlessly, his peripheral vision suddenly caught the Skeleton that had been tossed into the corner.
