Chapter 42

“Go help take the patients’ blood pressure. If you don’t want to, it doesn’t matter; just go through the motions.”

Fang Yu was clearly an old hand at this, well-versed in the art of slacking off at work.

After handing the sphygmomanometer to Yun Youyou, she disappeared to who-knows-where to take a break.

“I just heard those idiots saying they were going to give Youyou a piece of their mind. Even though they look weak, I’m still worried Youyou might accidentally get the short end of the stick.”

Wang Yuanyou had been loafing around in a corner just now and happened to overhear their loud plotting.

These NPCs were truly wicked.

Ji Lin didn’t think Yun Youyou needed his help at all.

“Not going.”

Facing Wang Yuanyou’s suggestion, Ji Lin didn’t even lift his head, focusing entirely on wiping the desk in front of him.

Wang Yuanyou had originally wanted to drag Ji Lin over to play the hero saving the beauty in front of Yun Youyou. He hadn’t expected his bro to be so unhelpful, caring only about wiping that broken desk with its missing legs.

“Wipe, wipe, wipe. What’s the point of getting the desk so clean? Are you going to manifest a girlfriend out of it? I’m doing this for your own good!”

Wang Yuanyou was pouring his heart out for his best friend’s love life, but his bro was a total blockhead.

The more he thought about it, the angrier he got. He snatched the rag from Ji Lin’s hand and threw it away.

“Hmph, if you won’t go, I’ll go by myself!”

Ji Lin: “…”

Did he eat gunpowder or something?

Wang Yuanyou took it upon himself to stand by Yun Youyou’s side, acting as her most loyal bodyguard.

Yun Youyou held a thermometer in her left hand and the blood pressure monitor in her right.

She looked up and glanced at Wang Yuanyou. “You’re just in time. Might as well take your temperature and blood pressure.”

Wang Yuanyou: “No, I’m here to protect you!”

Yun Youyou casually stuffed a thermometer into Wang Yuanyou’s hand. “You behaving and taking your temperature is the greatest protection you can give me.”

Wang Yuanyou: …

Fine, protecting Yun Youyou after taking his temperature was the same thing.

After a while, once Yun Youyou finished handing out thermometers to the others, she turned back to ask Wang Yuanyou, “How high?”

Wang Yuanyou said with considerable pride, “185.”

Yun Youyou: “…Were you cremated? How is your temperature that high?”

With a temperature like that, he could be an oven.

In the future, if she wanted to eat New Orleans roasted wings, she could just stuff the chicken wings into Wang Yuanyou’s mouth, and they’d be cooked in no time.

Only then did Wang Yuanyou realize Yun Youyou was asking for his temperature, not his height in centimeters.

He scratched his head sheepishly and gave a few awkward laughs.

“Hahahaha… I was just joking with you. It’s actually 37.1 degrees.”

Yun Youyou gave a few perfunctory laughs in return.

Wang Yuanyou was so embarrassed he could have curled his toes through the floor. He slunk back to Ji Lin’s side.

Ji Lin was sitting on a stool with his eyes closed, resting.

His profile under the light was so handsome it was staggering, his casual posture exuding an air of laziness.

Unfortunately, Wang Yuanyou was currently so embarrassed he could have dug out a canal with his toes.

“Why are you back?”

Wang Yuanyou was startled by the sudden voice. He looked up at Ji Lin only to find his eyes were still closed.

“Don’t even mention it! She asked for my temperature, and I blurted out ‘one meter eighty-five.’ It was so humiliating, especially in front of a beauty. I feel like my toes could dig right through the floorboards.”

Ji Lin: “Oh. Then keep working hard with those toes. If you dig through the Instance, we can leave.”

Wang Yuanyou: “…”

His bro only knew how to mock him from the sidelines; he didn’t know how to comfort his fragile heart at all.
With Wang Yuanyou serving as a cautionary tale, Yun Youyou simply set up a sign next to her: “Please tell me your temperature, not your height.”

With the addition of the sign, Yun Youyou’s work progressed much faster.

Her protective dharma treasure, the chainsaw, sat right by her feet.

Those who had just conspired to teach Yun Youyou a lesson exchanged meaningful glances.

One person crept over stealthily, seizing the opportunity to snatch Yun Youyou’s chainsaw away.

The other two were responsible for distracting Yun Youyou from the front.

“Nurse, come over and help me out. I don’t know how to use this.”

The two of them stood there, fiddling aimlessly with a thermometer.

Yun Youyou glanced at them and said expressionlessly, “Stick the thermometer up your ass.”

The two were stunned. “You’re talking nonsense! This is clearly supposed to go under the armpit.”

Yun Youyou gave a faint, mocking smile. “Oh, so you do know how to use it?”

The two were momentarily speechless.

The excuse they had come up with was far too half-hearted.

Just then, the third person responsible for stealing the chainsaw returned.

“I threw that chainsaw into the men’s restroom. There’s no way she’ll find it!”

The three of them rubbed their hands together in excitement.

“Nice work!”

Yun Youyou seemed unaware that danger was approaching.

By the time she snapped back to reality, she saw three hulking patients surrounding her, blocking her path.

“Please move aside.”

Yun Youyou turned sideways, intending to slip through a gap.

“Hey! I’m not letting you through!”

The man on the far right reached out to stop Yun Youyou.

“Aren’t you supposed to be all tough? Didn’t you like walking around with a chainsaw all day? I’ve been sick of looking at you for a long time!”

Yun Youyou took a step back, avoiding his flying spit.

“Then what do you think I should do?”

“Provide for us with good food and drink, of course! You do whatever we tell you to do! That’s what the previous nurses did!”

Seeing that Yun Youyou remained calm, they grew even more irritated.

“As long as you get on your knees and shout ‘I was wrong!’ three times, we might let you off the hook. Just a friendly reminder: your chainsaw was thrown away ages ago. Right now, we could beat you until you’re crying for your parents with just our pinky fingers.”

The three of them had craftily cornered Yun Youyou.

Hardly anyone noticed the situation, and even those who did pretended not to see.

After all, these men were the local Bullies; offending them never ended well.

Facing the provocations of these three men with their yellowed teeth, Yun Youyou only wanted to rip their mouths apart.

She knew she couldn’t handle three people at once, so she spoke to keep them occupied while slowly backing away.

“Don’t even think about running!”

One man blocked Yun Youyou from behind, leaning his foul-smelling mouth close to her cheek. “How about you let me give you a kiss, and then I’ll let you go?”

A look of greed appeared on his face as he stared lecherously at Yun Youyou’s soft, pink lips.

Yun Youyou: …

She was nearly suffocating from the man’s bad breath.

Right now, she wanted to shove a chainsaw into his mouth and saw off every single one of his teeth and his tongue.

Perhaps it was the dizziness from the stench, but Yun Youyou felt a searing heat behind her, accompanied by a stinging itch.

The sound of fabric tearing came from her back.

Before Yun Youyou could react, she saw some very familiar tentacles.

The tentacles, covered in flagella and eyes, suddenly lunged forward and seized the man in front of her.
