Chapter 36

Wang Yuanyou felt a deep sense of shame for having such a friend.

He crossed his arms and stepped between Yun Youyou and Ji Lin with a cold expression, snapping, “Yeah, you got a problem?”

Ji Lin glanced at Wang Yuanyou but ignored him.

He looked past Wang Yuanyou at Yun Youyou. “Could you please take us back to our ward? We don’t know the way.”

Yun Youyou paused. “Alright.”

She had almost thought Ji Lin had recognized her.

Thankfully, it was just a false alarm.

Wang Yuanyou also breathed a sigh of relief. So he just wanted the nurse to show them the way.

He knew it-there was no way his best bro was the kind of man who would flirt with anything that moved.

“Sorry to trouble you, Miss Nurse. If you ever run into an unreasonable doctor like that again, just come find us.”

Wang Yuanyou patted his chest with grand bravado.

Yun Youyou wanted nothing more than to never see them again, so she quickly declined. “No need, I wouldn’t want to trouble you.”

Wang Yuanyou thought she simply didn’t believe they were capable.

“Don’t judge me by how cowardly I looked on the operating table just now. My bro here is actually incredible. He can punch a ghost all the way into the sky with one hit.”

Patting his own chest wasn’t enough; Wang Yuanyou reached out to pat Ji Lin’s chest as well.

Ji Lin swatted his hand away in disgust.

Wang Yuanyou didn’t mind and intended to keep bragging about how awesome his friend was.

Yun Youyou quickly interrupted him. “Let me take you back to your ward first. If you aren’t there when rounds start later, something bad might happen.”

“Alright then.”

Wang Yuanyou shrugged, looking a bit disappointed.

This was Yun Youyou’s first time in this Instance as well. Stepping out into the long corridor, she felt a momentary sense of disorientation.

Where exactly was she?

The windows on both sides were sealed tight with black tape, preventing any outside light from filtering in. It was impossible to tell day from night.

The incandescent lights hanging overhead could only barely illuminate half the area.

Yun Youyou wandered around like a headless fly for a while without finding a single soul.

Wang Yuanyou and Ji Lin followed behind her for quite some time.

Wang Yuanyou eventually grew tired of walking and leaned against a nearby wall.

“Why aren’t we there yet? Which ward are we even in?”

The wall was covered in white ceramic tiles, which revealed yellow stains upon closer inspection.

The moment Wang Yuanyou leaned against it, Ji Lin immediately took several steps back, putting some distance between them.

Yun Youyou didn’t know either.

She was more uncomfortable than Wang Yuanyou; her mask made her feel like she was suffocating, yet she didn’t dare take it off.

“We’ll be there soon.”

After walking a few more steps, Yun Youyou finally spotted a nurse’s station.

There should be registration forms there, right?

Yun Youyou quickened her pace toward the station.

A computer and a landline sat on the desk, with messy papers scattered across the entire surface.

Yun Youyou flipped through them casually and, sure enough, found the names of Ji Lin and Wang Yuanyou.

Not only that, but she also found her own ID badge beneath a sheet of white paper.

Her heart tightened. Just as she was about to discreetly press the badge back under the paper, she saw Wang Yuanyou reach out curiously from the corner of her eye.

“Huh? What’s this?”

Yun Youyou didn’t have time to stop him.

Wang Yuanyou had already picked up the ID badge.

Nurse: Yun Youyou.

Yun Youyou?

Why did that name sound so familiar?

Wang Yuanyou immediately thought of that beautiful Homeroom Teacher they had encountered back in the School Instance-the one who was also Brother Ji’s secret girlfriend.

What a touching romance between a human and a ghost!
Yun Youyou’s heart was as cold as ashes.jpg

Ji Lin, on the other hand, didn’t have much of a reaction. His expression remained indifferent, as if he didn’t care about any of this at all.

Wang Yuanyou let out a quiet snort in his mind.

Hmph, keep pretending!

When he turned to look at Yun Youyou, his tone immediately became much more excited.

“Yun Youyou, did you forget me? We met back in the School Instance! You were our Homeroom Teacher back then!”

Yun Youyou had no choice but to helplessly indulge Wang Yuanyou in his reminiscing.

In the end, it was Ji Lin who spoke up to interrupt the two of them.

“Whatever you have to say can wait. We need to get back to the ward now.”

Yun Youyou breathed a sigh of relief.

If she had let Wang Yuanyou keep talking, they probably would have ended up discussing their family trees back eighteen generations.

She found Wang Yuanyou and Ji Lin’s names on the list, traced her finger across the row, and finally found their ward number.

Psychiatric Ward-Room 303.

“What’s wrong? Is there a problem?”

Wang Yuanyou saw Yun Youyou’s expression gradually turn strange and craned his neck curiously to look at the form in her hand.

Yun Youyou snapped the folder shut. “No problem.”

Sometimes, no problem was the biggest problem of all.

When Wang Yuanyou followed Yun Youyou to the front of Room 303, his cheerful demeanor vanished instantly. Seeing the sign on the door, he flew into a rage.

“You’re the ones who are crazy! This crappy Game actually says we’re mentally ill! I’m perfectly sane, dammit!”

Yun Youyou turned her head away, pretending not to notice.

No wonder the hospital had sealed the windows and installed iron bars on the ward doors; it turned out this was a psychiatric hospital.

Ji Lin wasn’t as resistant as Wang Yuanyou; he even felt like joking around.

He pointed at Wang Yuanyou and asked Yun Youyou, “What kind of symptoms does someone like him have?”

Yun Youyou glanced at the stomping, fuming Wang Yuanyou and played along. “Probably Intermittent Explosive Disorder.”

Wang Yuanyou: “…”

Great, so I’m just a prop in you two lovebirds’ roleplay.

Ji Lin turned on the light.

Two simple iron-framed beds sat in the middle of the room. The glass windows on the balcony were nailed shut with wooden boards, allowing not a single sliver of light to leak through.

Fortunately, the ward had its own private bathroom, so they wouldn’t have to share one with others.

Wang Yuanyou, suddenly thinking of something, grabbed the front of his hospital gown to take a look.

“Crap, it really is a mental asylum.”

There was a small logo printed on the chest of the gown.

Guannipisi Psychiatric Hospital.

Wang Yuanyou cursed himself for not realizing the reality sooner.

Yun Youyou pulled out the psychiatric patient schedule she had found at the nurse’s station.

“You should get some rest early. The hospital lights go out at exactly 10:00 PM every night. After lights out, no one is allowed to leave the ward. I’ll be here at 6:00 AM to wake you up.”

Hearing this grim news, Wang Yuanyou asked in disbelief, “What time did you say?”

Yun Youyou patiently repeated herself. “6:00 AM.”

Wang Yuanyou: !!!

This was more terrifying than a ghost story.

What could be scarier than having to wake up at six in the morning while trapped in a Horror Game? With the two scariest things combined, Wang Yuanyou felt his small body couldn’t handle such devastating news.

“What happens if we can’t get up?”

Yun Youyou flipped through the papers in her hand but couldn’t find an answer.

Thinking back to news reports she’d seen on TV, she said casually, “Probably nothing much. Maybe just a little electroshock therapy?”

Wang Yuanyou: !!!

I am definitely getting out of this bed!

(A completely brainless, silly story)

Yun Youyou opened her eyes and found that she had inexplicably become an NPC in a Horror Game.

The stingy Game: No salary, no benefits-as long as...
