Chapter 33
Chapter 33
The Game seemed to read her mind.
[No, no, no. Our software is much more advanced than those. At most, those apps let you chat online; this one can directly summon ghosts and monsters so you can meet face-to-face.]
“But what if I shake out a malevolent spirit?”
[That’s why the app is called ‘Taste.’ For some ghosts, this is a food delivery app. With just a shake, a delicious meal is delivered right to their door.]
Yun Youyou trembled, immediately exited the software, and decided she would never open this terrifying delivery app again.
[Entering the next level soon. Staff No. 003, please be prepared.]
Yun Youyou: ???
“Isn’t this a bit much? I just got back! Even people hauling bricks at a construction site get a good night’s sleep, don’t they?”
[Didn’t you sleep quite comfortably in the last Instance?]
The Game had watched Yun Youyou slack off the entire time.
She spent every day eating and drinking, showing none of the professional dedication expected of a Game employee.
Yun Youyou felt a bit guilty, and her voice grew much quieter.
“I’m just an extra. Naturally, I have to minimize my presence so I don’t upstage the Instance Boss. That’s a fundamental principle for any extra.”
[You know you’re just an extra, so you’d better run through a few more Instances. Once you become an Instance Boss, you won’t have to run around every day.]
Yun Youyou also harbored a dream of becoming a Long Aotian.
When that time came, she would kick the Instance Bosses and punch the wicked Game, making ten thousand ghosts kneel at her feet and shout, “Long live! Long live! Long live the Queen!”
At the thought of this, Yun Youyou couldn’t help but feel a surge of excitement.
“Roughly how long will it take for me to become an Instance Boss?”
The Game pondered for a moment. [With your abilities, it probably won’t happen for another three to five hundred years.]
Yun Youyou: …
If she lacked ability, she would just have to grind for seniority.
Yun Youyou was determined to be the longest-living ghost and rise through the ranks based on tenure.
[The Hospital Instance is about to begin. Please take your position immediately.]
Yun Youyou: “Can you give me any hints about this Instance?”
[No.]
The Game was decisive, showing no intention of cutting her any slack.
Yun Youyou: …
This Game was truly despicable to the extreme.
She pulled out her little notebook of grudges.
*On [Date], the Game looked down on ghosts. I must teach it how to be a proper ghost in the future!*
Unfortunately, she was still a member of the lowest laboring class, so she had no choice but to drag her weary body to work.
After the familiar flash of white light…
Yun Youyou suddenly felt the top of her head was exceptionally bright. Looking up, she realized it was a surgical lamp.
The glaring light made the interior of the room abnormally clear.
Various medical instruments filled the entire operating room.
Yun Youyou caught a glimpse of herself in a nearby reflector and saw that she was wearing a set of green surgical scrubs, complete with a mask and cap. She looked very professional.
“What are you standing there for? Quick, hand me the scalpel!”
The doctor beside Yun Youyou shouted impatiently, reaching his hand out toward her.
A scalpel?
Yun Youyou fumbled around nearby and handed one over at random.
She craned her neck to look at the person on the operating table, only to find the patient’s face covered by a green cloth. She couldn’t see them at all, though she had a vague feeling it was a man.
Could this be some unlucky Player?
As she watched, Yun Youyou asked curiously, “What kind of surgery is this?”
The doctor gave a cold laugh. “A sterilization procedure.”
Yun Youyou: !!!
She had thought that only cats and dogs were ever neutered.
If this Player woke up to find himself neutered, wouldn’t he go insane?
The brother lying on the hospital bed probably heard that terrifying word as well.
Driven by a powerful will, his finger actually twitched.
The doctor noticed this too.
“Go give him another shot of anesthesia.”
With that, a syringe was shoved into Yun Youyou’s arms.
Yun Youyou held the syringe, trembling.
She had been terrified of needles since she was a child and even hated the smell of hospitals. Now, asking her to give someone else an injection-wasn’t this just making things difficult for her?
Seeing her hesitation, the doctor said impatiently, “If you don’t do it, I’ll perform the neutering surgery on you instead.”
As soon as the words left his mouth, Yun Youyou dashed to the side of the poor soul and asked without hesitation, “How much anesthesia should I give?”
Doctor: “Whatever.”
Yun Youyou: “What if he dies?”
Doctor: “It’s better if he dies. I’ll just turn him into a specimen then.”
Yun Youyou marveled inwardly at how brutal he was.
She looked down, intending to stick the needle in, but a casual glance revealed that the patient on the operating table had eyes wide as saucers, staring fixedly at her.
It was actually an acquaintance!
For a moment, Yun Youyou couldn’t bring herself to do it.
Wang Yuanyou never expected that he would be lying on an operating table right at the start of the Game, or that this unscrupulous doctor would actually want to neuter him!
He had no desire to practice the Sunflower Manual.
Seeing the nurse about to jab him with anesthesia, Wang Yuanyou completely panicked.
Unfortunately, his hands and feet were devoid of sensation; the only things on his entire body he could move were his eyes.
Seeing Yun Youyou frozen there, the doctor’s cold gaze cut into her. He said crossly, “What are you just standing there for? Hurry up and jab him!”
Seeing Wang Yuanyou here, Yun Youyou knew Ji Lin must be nearby. It was only a matter of time before he found this place.
If Ji Lin found out she had helped the doctor neuter his good friend, he would probably hack her to death on the spot.
Yun Youyou wanted to stall for time, her eyes scanning the operating room.
There happened to be a book in the corner.
Yun Youyou didn’t stop to wonder why there was a book in an operating room; she immediately ran over and picked it up.
“Three-Minute Medical Doctor Crash Course.”
Judging by the name, this book seemed exceptionally unreliable.
Yun Youyou gave the dark-faced doctor an apologetic smile. “I have a bit of a bad memory. I suddenly forgot how to inject anesthesia. Wait for me to look it up in the book first.”
Yun Youyou looked exactly like a college student cramming at the last minute.
Wang Yuanyou, lying on the operating table, breathed a sigh of relief.
Thank goodness!
If he encountered a nurse like this in reality, he would think she was unreliable-how could someone like that even graduate?
But encountering a nurse like this in the Game, he only felt incredibly lucky!
The doctor was so angry that the veins on his forehead were throbbing.
If he weren’t currently wearing sterile gloves, he would have strangled Yun Youyou long ago.
“Fine, then I’ll just start without the anesthesia.”
Wang Yuanyou: !!!
Under an explosion of survival instinct, he was finally able to speak.
“But I’ll die from the pain!”
The doctor’s gaze was indifferent. “Then just die.”
Wang Yuanyou shouted unwillingly, “Shouldn’t a hospital provide patients with meticulous care? What kind of crappy hospital is this? I’m going to report you for patient abuse!”
The doctor picked up a scalpel.
