Chapter 25
Chapter 25
Tao Jinran shuddered, pointing a trembling finger at Yun Youyou.
“But don’t you like her a lot? Is she going to be eaten too?”
The Landlord gave a faint smile. “I’ll save my favorite for the very last bite, so you’d better worry about yourself first.”
The Landlord simply walked away, leaving the others behind with various expressions.
There were five of them. Even if the Landlord picked two to eat every day, it would be the third day before it was Yun Youyou’s turn.
Everyone looked at Yun Youyou with envy.
Must be nice; she gets to live for three more days.
Tao Jinran sighed. “I hope he doesn’t use any dipping sauce when he eats me. I hate that slimy feeling.”
Shen Qingyu added, “He’d better not tear me to pieces. I want to leave an intact corpse.”
Yun Youyou: “…You guys are so spineless! Can’t you think about using your own strength to defeat him?”
How were these Players even more of a ‘salted fish’ than she was? They were even planning out how they wanted to be served.
Players these days were really getting worse and worse.
Tao Jinran shrugged helplessly. “But we can’t beat him. With just the few of us and these measly little items, there’s no way we can take him down.”
These Players were all newbies who hadn’t played many Games. Their inventories were meager, and their strength made them nothing more than easy pickings.
Even Shen Qingyu agreed with Tao Jinran.
“If we just let him eat us obediently, we might suffer less.”
Yun Youyou turned to Shamate. “Is that what you think too?”
Shamate shook his head. “Of course not!”
Yun Youyou looked at Shamate with appreciation.
“At least you have some backbone!”
Shamate said righteously, “I’m going to wash myself clean first to give the Landlord a better dining experience.”
Yun Youyou: “…”
She had seen plenty of bootlickers, but she had never seen a ghost bootlicker.
“That makes sense. I’ll spray some perfume when the time comes. Even if I’m food, I want to be the most delicious food in the world.”
Tao Jinran silently added this to her plan.
This batch of Players was truly the hardest to manage!
Yun Youyou was having a breakdown.
She wanted to lie flat and be a ‘salted fish’ in the Game, but she didn’t want to be a literal salted fish eaten in someone’s stomach!
Yun Youyou said helplessly, “Why don’t we go catch some ghosts to serve as the Landlord’s food instead?”
Wang Weiye was a bit intrigued.
He didn’t want to die either, of course. “But where are we going to find ghosts to catch?”
Shen Qingyu frowned slightly. “Can we even catch a ghost?”
Yun Youyou: “We can just give it a try. If we succeed, we live a few more days. Even if we fail, the worst-case scenario is just getting eaten.”
Since there was nothing to lose either way, Shamate immediately raised both hands.
“I agree!”
The others also thought it was a good idea.
But where exactly were they supposed to find a ghost?
Everyone gathered in the living room to discuss.
Yun Youyou sat cross-legged on the sofa, munching on a bag of original-flavored potato chips.
“Where do you think ghosts usually appear?”
Tao Jinran sat next to Yun Youyou. “Definitely dark and gloomy places. It’s not like they’d just show up in the living room in broad daylight.”
Shamate: “…”
You probably wouldn’t believe it if I told you, but there are currently two ghosts sitting right here on the sofa, discussing with you how to catch other ghosts.
“Based on my years of experience watching horror movies, someone who argues with their friends and then stays in a room alone is extremely likely to encounter a ghost.”
Shen Qingyu shared her horror movie expertise with a serious expression.
“Alright, then we’ll follow this script.”
Yun Youyou thought this was a pretty good idea. “Then who’s going to be the one left alone?”
The person left alone definitely had to be played by the most fragile-looking one.
Everyone’s eyes shifted in unison toward Yun Youyou.
Yun Youyou: “…You might not believe me, but I actually think I’m pretty strong.”
Tao Jinran looked Yun Youyou over carefully.
No matter how she looked at her, the girl seemed fragile.
Tao Jinran mistakenly thought Yun Youyou was afraid and didn’t want to take on such a heavy responsibility.
“Youyou, although your strength is a bit high, you really are the weakest person here. Don’t worry, we’ll all be hiding in the corners with you. As soon as the ghost shows up, we’ll catch it!”
Shamate sat nearby, his expression a strange mix of awkwardness and distortion.
If Yun Youyou was the weakest one here, then what did that make him-the guy she had just pummeled?
Was he trash?
Yun Youyou had no way to prove herself then and there, so she was forced to take on the role of the leading lady.
Holding the protagonist’s script, Yun Youyou was forced to play the part of the unlucky soul left all alone.
As for Shamate, he was responsible for picking a fight with Yun Youyou, while the others hid in the corners to set an ambush.
Shamate: … I’m a ghost, yet I have to act here. The Game better pay me double!
Shamate and Yun Youyou stood at the room’s entrance, staring at each other without moving.
The “director,” Tao Jinran, grew anxious and frantically signaled to them with her eyes.
Yun Youyou really didn’t know how to start. After staring at Shamate for a long while, she managed to squeeze out a line.
“Your hair is really ugly.”
Shamate hadn’t been able to get into character, but the moment he heard someone insult his precious hair, he immediately flared up.
“My hair has seven colors, all carefully selected! It was designed by a professional stylist, and I spent ten whole hours in the salon getting it dyed! How is it ugly?!”
Yun Youyou: “It’s just ugly.”
Shamate hopped madly. “You’re the ugly one! You’re ugly! You don’t understand fashion at all! You’re unreasonable!”
With that, he stomped away, making the floorboards thud loudly.
Yun Youyou shrugged and turned back into her room.
The room was as quiet as ever.
Yun Youyou lay straight on the bed and closed her eyes, pretending to rest.
She didn’t know if the ghost would show up, but if it didn’t come soon, she was afraid she’d actually fall asleep.
She didn’t know how long she had been lying there; even Shen Qingyu and Wang Weiye, who were hiding in the wardrobe, were about to drift off.
In her half-asleep state, Yun Youyou suddenly felt something drip onto her face.
It was cold and wet.
Yun Youyou reached up to touch it, squinted, and saw her hand covered in blood.
Ugh, how disgusting.
Yun Youyou’s eyes widened in distaste as she looked up at the ceiling.
She saw a female ghost clinging to the ceiling like a giant gecko, letting out a “gege” laugh every now and then.
Yun Youyou immediately grabbed the desk lamp from the nightstand and hurled it at the female ghost on the ceiling.
The female ghost hadn’t expected this person to be so bold.
She was right in the middle of her laugh when a large vase-like object slammed directly into her face, flattening her nose.
The ghost’s laughter stopped abruptly.
The object fell to the floor and shattered into pieces.
The female ghost touched her face and found that her nose had been smashed into a pulp.
“Ah! My nose!”
The female ghost let out a shrill scream, glaring at Yun Youyou with pure hatred.
