Chapter 14

Liang Fei watched his retreating back with a look of confusion.

Wang Yuanyou huffed and puffed as he ran back; fortunately, Yun Youyou hadn’t left yet.

“Oh, right! I haven’t asked for your name yet!”

Yun Youyou looked at the suddenly returning Wang Yuanyou in surprise. After a brief stun, she told him her name.

“My name is Yun Youyou.”

Wang Yuanyou gave her an “OK” sign and huffed and puffed his way back again.

He turned and left immediately, leaving Yun Youyou standing there, completely bewildered.

Wang Yuanyou jogged to catch up with Ji Lin, winking and nudging him. “Do you want to know the name of your ghost crush?”

Ji Lin ignored him.

Wang Yuanyou, still acting like a pest, wanted to say more, but he suddenly found that his mouth wouldn’t move-and neither would his body.

“Mmph! Mmph-mmph!!”

Wang Yuanyou glared at Ji Lin in fury. It had to be his doing.

Ji Lin paid him no mind and continued walking forward.

Liang Fei could only give him a helpless look that said, “Sorry, I can’t help you.”

Seeing Ji Lin getting further and further away, seemingly about to leave the Instance at any second, Wang Yuanyou grew frantic.

“Mmph!”

*Let me go! I promise I won’t say another word!*

Unfortunately, no one could hear Wang Yuanyou’s inner thoughts.

Wang Yuanyou stood alone and miserable in the wind, the dilapidated school buildings behind him, as he watched the direction Ji Lin had gone with a pitiful gaze.

Was he really going to be left here to keep the ghosts company?

If Wang Yuanyou could move right now, he would have definitely looked up at the sky at a forty-five-degree angle and shed a single tear of regret.

A person shouldn’t be such a smart-aleck, and they especially shouldn’t provoke Ji Lin.

Just as half of Ji Lin’s body was about to exit the Instance, Wang Yuanyou found that he could suddenly move again.

He sprinted toward Ji Lin like a madman.

His speed was more than enough to compete in an Olympic sprint. As he ran, he shouted.

“Ji Lin! I love you!”

Ji Lin’s figure stiffened.

He suddenly felt a twinge of regret for letting Wang Yuanyou off so easily.

The figures of the four Players vanished from the Instance simultaneously.

Yun Youyou’s work as a Ghost NPC also came to a temporary close.

[Instance: School Life completed.]

A familiar white light flashed before her eyes.

When Yun Youyou opened her eyes again, she found that the pile of ghost corpses in front of her had disappeared, and she was back in the Ghost Rest Room.

While not quite as dilapidated as the school, Yun Youyou’s rest room was still very shabby.

A broken chair and a broken bed.

Anyone who didn’t know better would think they had been salvaged from a junkyard.

[Congratulations to Staff No. 003 for successfully completing the Instance mission. You have been awarded the work title “Lie Flat Victory” and two hundred work experience points. Your position remains: Extra.]

Yun Youyou: “…”

She hadn’t expected this Game to be so advanced as to have work titles.

“What is this work title for?”

Yun Youyou wasn’t very familiar with the Game’s rules yet and didn’t know the purpose of this title.

The Game’s voice was devoid of emotion.

[Staff No. 003, you may look into the mirror over there.]

Half-doubting, Yun Youyou walked to the corner of the room.

The broken mirror was only half a pane; she had to lower her head just to see her own face.

Yun Youyou bent down and looked curiously into the mirror.

Then, she fell silent.

Two golden, glowing characters were hanging conspicuously right over the center of Yun Youyou’s head.

Yun Youyou: “…Game, are you messing with me?”

The Game’s voice sounded somewhat innocent. [Not at all. Don’t you think this is an honor?]
“Do you really think it’s glorious to announce to the whole world of humans and ghosts that I got a ‘Lie Flat Victory’?” Yun Youyou countered.

[Of course it’s glorious! Being able to lie flat and win means your luck is good enough, and luck is a part of one’s strength. Trust me, everyone will be very envious of you. After all, those with bad luck have already died in the instances.]

Yun Youyou actually found the Game’s logic quite sound.

She really had relied on good luck, having encountered several kind Players.

Otherwise, she probably would have died at Ji Lin’s hands long ago.

“Fine, actually, this title seems pretty good too.”

Yun Youyou silently accepted the title.

She suddenly remembered the fried chicken Liang Fei had made, and her mouth began to water.

“Oh, right! Do Ghost NPCs get staff meals?”

[Yes, but they are restricted to senior staff members. A bit-part player like you is just a regular employee.]

Yun Youyou became even more determined to establish labor laws in the Ghost Realm-she’d have to set up a Ghost Labor Protection Association too.

When one is out in the world, sometimes one just has to swallow their pride.

Yun Youyou shook out her duvet.

“Forget it, I’ll just get some good rest first.”

She lay down on the bed, but just as she pulled up the covers, the Game’s electronic voice rang out in her mind again.

[Ding! Instance task: Villa Life is about to begin. Staff No. 003, please take your position immediately.]

!!!

Yun Youyou bolted upright in bed.

*Sitting up startled from a deathbed, suddenly hearing it’s time for work!*

“Wait! Didn’t I just finish an instance task? How is there another work assignment already? Your game is too inhumane! This is the cruel exploitation of the ghost labor force! You’re all going to hell!”

Yun Youyou spoke with bitter resentment, trying to awaken the last shred of the Game’s conscience.

[Sorry, our staff are all ghosts, so there is no need to be ‘humane.’]

The Game’s punchable voice rang out.

[Our motto is: As long as the work doesn’t kill you, work yourself to death.]

Yun Youyou: “…”

She hugged her duvet and lay back down. “Anyway, I’m not going. Whoever wants to go can go.”

The Game wasn’t angry at all. [Since Staff No. 003 has violated the game rules, any ghosts who wish to dine, please gather here. No latecomers will be served…]

Yun Youyou whipped the duvet off and rushed outside at top speed.

“I’ll go! I’ll go!”

The Game nodded with satisfaction. [I really like Staff No. 003’s enthusiasm for work. Our game needs energetic employees like you.]

Yun Youyou: “…”

At this moment, she just wanted to stuff the Game into her mouth, chew it up, and then spit it onto the ground to stomp it into a pulp.

With grief and indignation, she entered the workplace.

[Instance: Villa Life is now starting. All staff members, please take your positions immediately.]

Yun Youyou found that the scene before her eyes had transformed into the living room of a villa.

She was sitting on a sofa, with her suitcase placed beside her.

Yun Youyou looked around.

The villa’s decor was a bit dated, looking like it had been around for quite a few years, and the wooden floors showed significant wear and tear.

Yun Youyou looked at the identity card the Game had transmitted to her.

This time, her identity was a tenant of this villa.

“Excuse me, are you also a tenant here?”

Yun Youyou had been so focused on looking at her identity card that she hadn’t noticed when someone had appeared beside her.

(A completely brainless, silly story)

Yun Youyou opened her eyes and found that she had inexplicably become an NPC in a Horror Game.

The stingy Game: No salary, no benefits-as long as...
