Chapter 12
Chapter 12
Not one more, not one less-exactly twelve strikes.
The seventh day of the Instance had officially arrived.
The sky looked as if a giant curtain had been drawn across it, so gloomy that even the moon was invisible. Dark creatures bared their teeth in malevolent grins from the shadows.
The temperature outside was bone-chilling.
Yun Youyou felt something inside her body manipulating her.
In a daze, she drifted out of the classroom.
The corridor was gloomy and terrifying; only the howling of the wind outside could be heard.
Rounding a corner, Yun Youyou saw the Dean.
His face was twisted and deformed, his pitted skin looking as if it had been torn off and pasted back on, as if the flesh might fall off his face at any second.
Yun Youyou wanted to leave, but she followed him uncontrollably.
The Dean didn’t seem to notice a ghost following him, or perhaps he just didn’t care.
He drifted straight toward the confinement room, moving with a speed that completely belied his obese frame.
Yun Youyou was left behind.
By the time Yun Youyou reached the confinement room, she found that the Players and Ghost NPCs had all gathered.
Four Players stood warily in a corner.
The ghosts watched them like predators.
The Dean’s slimy, sinister gaze swept over the three of them, finally landing on Liang Fei.
He narrowed his eyes. “You’re actually still alive?”
Liang Fei steeled himself and challenged him, “I won’t die even if you do!”
At this provocation, the black aura around the Dean thickened.
In all his years as Dean here, this was the first time he had met someone who dared to speak to him like that.
He looked at Liang Fei as if he were already a dead man.
“You all must die!”
The Dean stared fixedly at the four people before him, his smile hideous, his sharp, eerie teeth glinting in the darkness.
He lunged at Liang Fei and the others with terrifying speed.
Led by Teacher Lu, the crowd of fierce ghosts also grinned maliciously, eager for a feast.
Liang Fei and the female Player quickly retreated to the back, clutching the amulets Ji Lin had given them.
Supposedly, these amulets could withstand ghost attacks for five minutes. They didn’t know if Brother Ji could break out in such a short amount of time.
Yun Youyou craftily shrank into a corner, planning to observe the situation first.
Seeing the Dean already charging at Ji Lin, Yun Youyou quickly closed her eyes.
She didn’t want to see Ji Lin with broken limbs.
“Aaaah!!!”
A shrill, agonizing scream pierced the air, exploding in her ears.
Goosebumps broke out all over Yun Youyou’s skin.
Wait, that scream didn’t sound like Ji Lin’s. His voice wasn’t nearly that unpleasant.
Yun Youyou opened her eyes and found the Dean was gone.
Strange. Where did he go?
“You bunch of idiots! Hurry up and pull me out!!”
Yun Youyou followed the sound and discovered the Dean hadn’t disappeared; he was firmly embedded in the wall.
The teachers behind him snapped out of their daze and rushed over to pull the Dean out.
It took every ounce of their strength to finally pry the Dean off the wall.
“You bastard!”
The Dean’s already low bulbous nose had been flattened, with two streams of blood hanging from his face.
In his rage, the black Insect Mist on his body churned and flew toward the Players.
“Sssss-”
Liang Fei and Wang Yuanyou quickly pulled out the insecticide they had just spent a fortune on in the Mall.
A Game-produced item was guaranteed to be top-tier.
The air was filled with insecticide, making even Yun Youyou, who was huddled in the corner, choke and cough.
Sure enough, the Insect Mist couldn’t withstand the Game’s insecticide; before the insects could even reach their targets, they fluttered their wings and fell straight from the air.
Seeing that the male Players were not to be trifled with, the Dean’s sinister gaze fell upon the only female Player.
His sharp, black fingernails were about to touch her delicate neck when they stopped abruptly in mid-air.
The Dean found himself suddenly unable to move.
Even though he was just a hair’s breadth away, he couldn’t budge an inch no matter how hard he gritted his teeth.
The ghost teachers behind him also realized they couldn’t move, their eyes filled with terror.
Ji Lin looked at the Dean’s filthy fingernails with disgust.
These ghosts really had no sense of hygiene.
He hovered his hand over the Dean’s head.
“Is this your doing?! Let me go!!” the Dean roared.
Seeing Ji Lin unmoved, he suddenly softened his tone. “Let me go. I promise I won’t attack you again. I can even let you clear the stage directly.”
He pleaded piteously, nearly on the verge of swearing an oath.
Ji Lin looked at his hypocritical face and sneered.
“If I kill you all, we can clear the stage just the same.”
The Dean’s voice held a hint of disdain. “You think you can kill me? You might have some skill, but it’s better for young people not to be so arrogant.”
Ji Lin didn’t waste words.
The hand hovering over the Dean’s head slowly began to close.
Beneath his pale skin, a hint of blue showed through; his fingers were long and fair, yet they contained terrifying power.
The disdain on the Dean’s face vanished, replaced by a terrified scream: “No! Please, let-”
The sound cut off abruptly.
Before he could finish his sentence, Ji Lin crushed his skull.
And it was crushed in the literal, physical sense.
Grayish-white brain matter mixed with bright red blood erupted in the air.
An invisible barrier seemed to surround Ji Lin, shielding him from the disgusting liquid.
The other Players had long since retreated into the corners.
Wang Yuanyou was relatively fine, but the couple next to him were already retching.
Yun Youyou, hiding in the corner, was also going, “Blegh!”
As for the ghost teachers behind the Dean, they weren’t so lucky.
They were splattered with blood and brain matter, staring blankly at the scene before them.
This man’s methods were even more cruel than a ghost’s.
A second later, they snapped back to their senses and tried to flee this terrifying place as fast as possible.
Then, they realized they couldn’t get out.
It seemed as though a transparent barrier was preventing them from leaving.
“Save your strength. You’re all dying today.”
Wang Yuanyou pulled out a sword and began hacking wildly at the group of ghosts.
The ghosts weren’t easy targets either and began a desperate final counterattack.
However, with Ji Lin backing them up, it was all in vain.
Wang Yuanyou skewered the ghosts right through.
Two ghosts were now hanging neatly from his sword.
As the wind blew, the two ghosts swayed in the air.
It was a scene that would make a Male Ghost fall silent and a female ghost weep.
Yun Youyou shrank further into the corner.
Today was indeed a massacre, but it was a one-sided slaughter of the ghosts by the Players.
Wang Yuanyou shook his sword, tossing the ghosts’ corpses off.
“Let’s go. We can clear the stage now.”
Wang Yuanyou shouldered his sword, a brilliant smile on his face.
Ji Lin didn’t move. “There’s still one ghost left.”
Oh, right!
There was still one ghost!
Their Homeroom Teacher was also a ghost.
“But our Homeroom Teacher seemed quite nice to us; she even gave us a secret warning. Maybe we shouldn’t kill her?”
Wang Yuanyou felt a bit reluctant.
“Yeah, I think she’s a good ghost too,” Liang Fei agreed.
