Chapter 3
Chapter 3
“Once you’re sent to a damned place like this, you’ve got no hope for the rest of your life.”
The Fifth Prince and I were locked up in a remote palace hall.
When I heard the old eunuch mutter those words, I nearly died of fright.
I thought I was being moved from one hellhole to another.
But who would have thought? Who would have thought!
How was this a hellhole? This was clearly paradise!
I made one round through the hall and was left dumbstruck.
Good heavens!
Just look at this sandalwood bed. The carvings! The craftsmanship!
And look at these Su-embroidered bed curtains. The patterns! The fabric!
There were even several fruit trees planted outside.
And plenty of precious flowers.
They simply hadn’t been tended to in ages, so everything grew lush and wild.
The Fifth Prince sat on the steps, staring into space.
I walked over and nudged his calf with my foot, saying sourly, “You nobles really have it good, huh? Even when you’ve fallen from grace, you still live like this.”
Such a spacious place to stay.
Back when I was in the brothel, five or six of us girls had to squeeze onto one shared platform bed.
At night, I didn’t even dare turn over in my sleep, afraid I might accidentally kiss someone on the mouth.
A commotion came from outside.
I pressed my ear to the door and listened. Turns out, someone had come to deliver things!
“The Fifth Prince has gone completely mad.”
“The Crown Princess is still kindhearted. She told us to bring over some of the Fifth Prince’s old belongings.”
“The Empress passed away from illness a few days ago, but His Majesty didn’t even go to see her once. His whole heart is with the Noble Consort now.”
“The Empress was from a minor family anyway. Her death just happens to clear a place for the Noble Consort.”
Hearing that, I glanced at the Fifth Prince.
Then I deliberately kicked the door.
The voices outside instantly fell silent.
The palace maids left the things outside the door. I took a look.
Oh! There was quite a lot!
Bedding, clothes, books.
I looked at the pile of books, then turned and complained, “Is that old sweetheart of yours an idiot or something? Why send books at a time like this?”
I casually tossed the books into a corner and kept rummaging.
Damn it!
Why didn’t they send something valuable?
I cursed under my breath. “Were all you people in the palace raised on dew or what?”
The Fifth Prince pointed at the pouch on the table and said foolishly, “Wife has silver.”
I hugged the silver to my chest and said warily, “Dream on! I will never spend money on a man in this lifetime.”
The Fifth Prince forcefully snatched a silver ingot from me. I was so angry I lunged to hit him.
Unfortunately, the difference in strength was just too great!
The Fifth Prince held me back with one hand pressed against my head, then pointed at my chest with the other and said seriously, “Wife, hurt. Use silver. Buy medicine.”

She Always Wants to Run Away
I was the most envied courtesan in all the capital.
Simply because I bore a seventy-percent resemblance to the Crown Princess, someone threw down a fortune and bought me on the very night I...
