Chapter 4
Chapter 4
The next week, I was swamped.
He Qi called me several times; I turned her down every time.
She got anxious.
“If you don’t come out, we’re done.”
So I went, yawning.
She’d gathered a mixed crowd.
They played a few rounds of golf.
I sat under a sun umbrella and caught two naps.
“So sleepy? How many days haven’t you slept? Did you lose weight again?”
He Qi never understood my workaholic streak.
She likes money, too.
But she likes fun more.
As she says, “If making money isn’t for fun, then there’s no joy in it.”
To that, I can only say she still doesn’t love money enough.
After a bit of small talk, I checked the time.
“I’m heading out. You stay and play.”
“Fine!”
She wasn’t happy, but she didn’t keep me.
I stood to leave.
Just as I turned, I saw Shen Yichuan coming over, Ruan Qiao at his side.
He Qi’s face dropped.
“What are you doing here?”
She even swore up and down to me,
“I didn’t call him!”
Shen Yichuan’s face was calm; he said nothing.
His eyes stayed on me.
I pretended not to notice.
I patted He Qi’s shoulder to reassure her.
“I’m off.”
I’d only taken two steps when
Ruan Qiao spoke.
She was a little pale, but her gaze was as stubborn as ever.
“Miss Xie, I know you don’t want to see me.”
“I shouldn’t have come and disturbed you.”
“I’m the one who should leave.”
At that, Shen Yichuan bristled. He looked at me, face dark.
“Leave? Who’s leaving? Leave where?”
Lin Yan jogged over.
Seeing the tightly held grievance on Ruan Qiao’s face, he looked pained.
He turned to me, as if everything clicked.
Holding back his displeasure, his voice tight.
“Sister-in-law, there’s no need for this. I’m the one who invited Qiaoqiao. I couldn’t find a parking spot just now, so I had her and Brother Shen go in first. Come on-on my account, don’t make things hard for Qiaoqiao, okay?”
I looked at Lin Yan and let out a short laugh through my nose.
“Your account? You don’t even give your own brother face, and I should give you face?”
“You-” The kid couldn’t take it; eyes flashing, he started forward.
“Enough. What’s the fuss?” Shen Yichuan finally spoke.
He stopped Lin Yan.
Gave him a warning look.
Then gave me the same.
But I don’t bend to pressure.
“And don’t call me sister-in-law. Shen Yichuan and I are already divorced.”

On April 27th, Shen Yichuan wished me a happy birthday.
I was silent for two seconds and nodded.
“I agree to the divorce.”
An awkward look crossed Shen...
