Chapter 66
Jiang Li was halfway down the Stairs when she felt a lingering sense of unease in her heart.
The middle-aged woman’s Fake Son had died-would she turn on her own son next?
But… her son was no ordinary person. He was Red Infant.
If that woman dared to provoke Red Infant, it would be nothing short of a death wish.
Jiang Li let her worries subside.
She went straight to the Cafeteria on Floor -2 for breakfast.
While eating, Jiang Li kept feeling as if there were footsteps overhead.
And, for some reason, she had a constant sensation of being watched.
Jiang Li looked up at the Cafeteria ceiling.
It was made entirely of black glass-opaque.
Above it was Floor -1.
By all rights, Floor -1 was a restricted area; there shouldn’t be anyone up there.
Yet Jiang Li couldn’t shake the feeling that countless Eyes were staring down at her from above.
Those gazes lingered overhead for a long time, making Jiang Li extremely uneasy.
She finished her breakfast in two minutes and immediately left the Cafeteria.
On her way back, Jiang Li saw a nurse hurrying down from the first floor, arms full of documents.
Below the first floor, besides the Cafeteria, was the Morgue.
Delivering that many documents to either place didn’t seem reasonable.
After ruling out every other possibility, only one place remained-
Floor -1, the restricted area.
There was someone there!
Realizing this, Jiang Li felt a wave of goosebumps down her back.
The nurse was only two steps away from Floor -1.
And behind the nurse, another patient was coming down, apparently heading for the Cafeteria.
Jiang Li quickly walked behind the patient and nudged them with her elbow.
The patient cried out in fright, lost their balance, and tumbled down the Stairs.
A fall down three or four steps wouldn’t be fatal.
Jiang Li watched from the Stairs.
As expected, the nurse was caught up in the patient’s fall, and both took a tumble together.
All the documents the nurse had were scattered everywhere.
Jiang Li’s lips curled into a faint smile.
She hurried down, helped the nurse up, and started gathering the documents.
“Oh dear, how careless! Let me help you,” Jiang Li said warmly.
She quickly picked up the documents from the floor.
As she gathered each file, she rapidly glanced through them.
The patient who had knocked over the nurse realized they’d caused trouble and was clearly frightened.
As if afraid to anger the nurse, the patient clutched their knee, ignored the pain, scrambled up, and ran away in a panic.
The nurse also looked very anxious.
She hurriedly gathered the documents, not even glancing at Jiang Li, quickly shuffled them into order, and rushed straight to the entrance to Floor -1.
Now, Jiang Li was quite certain-there was someone on Floor -1.
Not only that, but whoever it was must have significant status.
Otherwise, the nurse wouldn’t have been so anxious as to leave without even scolding anyone.
It was just a pity the entrance door to Floor -1 was opaque, or Jiang Li could have learned more.
Jiang Li walked back, deep in thought.
As she went upstairs, the Stairs were still littered with Spirit Money and Yellow Paper, some reduced to ashes.
Not only that, but the corners of the walls were marked with large red graffiti: “Death,” “Escape.”
Scattered slips of paper covered the floor, each filled with ‘Madhouse horror rumors’ written by who knows which lunatic.
Jiang Li had just reached the third floor when she was almost knocked over by a patient running wild.
That madman was laughing hysterically, darting down from the fourth floor, completely unhinged.
As they ran, they shouted, “Ahahaha! Go see, they’re beating a child over there!!”
“Shut the door and beat the child, hahahaha…”
Jiang Li felt vaguely uneasy, but she didn’t think it could be Red Infant.
She grabbed the person and demanded, “Where?”
The lunatic jerked away warily, eyes blank:
“Don’t grab me, it wasn’t me. It was an old woman who was beating the kid.”
The answer made no sense.
But hearing the words “old woman,” Jiang Li’s unease intensified.
She couldn’t help but make her tone more forceful, repeating, “I asked, where?”
The madman scratched their head foolishly. “Uh… in, in Room 409, I think, but I can’t really remember.”
Before the madman had finished, Jiang Li’s face had already turned grim as she dashed up to the fourth floor.
From the corridor entrance on the fourth floor, she could see a crowd gathered outside Room 409.
Although the door to Ward 409 was tightly shut, it didn’t stop anyone from coming to watch the commotion.
The corridor in front of Ward 409 was packed so tightly that no one could get through.
Jiang Li rushed over, raising the Room 402 key from her pocket and shouting loudly:
“Move aside! I have the key, let me open the door!”
As soon as she finished speaking,
The chattering lunatics automatically made way for Jiang Li.
Jiang Li ran to the door and heard Red Infant’s cries coming from inside the room.
“Ah!! Mommy… Mommy, come save me!! Wuwuwu, it hurts so much, wuwu…”
Jiang Li’s heart clenched.
She took half a step back, aimed at the lock, and kicked the iron door open with a bang.
The iron door swung open.
Red Infant’s miserable state came into view.
The little one was wrapped in iron chains, tied to a chair.
The crazed woman’s eyes were bloodshot as she held a curling iron, burning Red Infant’s arm!
The sizzling sound, like roasting meat, made everyone’s heart tremble.
The woman saw Jiang Li rush in and threatened sharply:
“Don’t come any closer! I’m telling you, my son is dead-your son won’t have it any better!!”
The woman pointed the curling iron at Red Infant’s neck.
If Jiang Li dared to approach, Red Infant would definitely be hurt.
The little one was already crying so hard he could barely speak.
His small face was streaked with tears, looking so pitifully at Jiang Li, “Mommy, save me! Wuwuwu…”
“Crazy woman, let me go! My Mommy is here, she’ll beat you up!!”
The woman was enraged by Red Infant and instantly gripped the curling iron tighter, aiming it at Red Infant’s neck.
“Don’t move!” Jiang Li stopped her, her expression tense. “Calm down! We can talk this out.”
The woman watched Jiang Li warily, her expression spiraling out of control as she shouted:
“It’s all your fault!! My son is gone, and your son won’t live either!!!”
Red Infant sat in the chair, crying and cursing:
“You maniac, if you dare kill me, my Mommy will kill you!!
Also, that stupid doll of yours isn’t your son at all! Your son’s been dead for ages, long dead!!”
The woman grew even more agitated at Red Infant’s words, her expression on the verge of collapse.
She screamed hysterically, raising the curling iron heated to 210 degrees and pressing it to Red Infant’s neck.
Red Infant’s neck was burned, the smell of scorched flesh filling the air.
Red Infant cried out in agony, “Ahhh!!! It hurts!…”
“Mommy! Kill her, hurry, kill her!!”
The scene became chaotic.
The crazed woman, in her rage, again raised the curling iron, pressing it against Red Infant’s Eyes.
“Ahhhhh!!!…” The shrill screams were deafening.
Both of Red Infant’s Eyes festered, turning into hollow, bloody flesh.
Bright red blood streamed from Red Infant’s bleeding eye sockets.
The little one was in such pain that he passed out immediately.
The brutal scene was shocking.
Jiang Li’s gaze turned icy cold. “You left me no choice.”
She turned around, walked to the door, and slammed it shut behind her, cutting off the view from outside.
……
Ten minutes later.
Jiang Li dragged the woman’s battered face, opened the iron door, and called out to the outside:
“Someone call Doctor Hao! Hurry, someone’s going to die!”
With a thud, the iron door was slammed shut again.
Inside came another round of banging noises, mixed with the woman’s screams and pleas for mercy.
The patients outside looked at each other, all staring in shock.
Doctor Hao hurried to the scene.
He pulled out his key with a grave expression and opened the iron door to Ward 409.
The iron door opened.
Doctor Hao saw the scene inside the room and froze in place.
He looked at Jiang Li in disbelief.
The two locked eyes.
Jiang Li said, “Doctor Hao, save them quickly-if you’re late, it’ll be too late.”
Jiang Li clapped her hands, kicked the woman on the floor twice, and looked up at Hao Huairen.
Hao Huairen’s gaze was fixed on Jiang Li.
At this moment, Hao Huairen was trying his best to control himself, pretending to see only Jiang Li.
But his eyes couldn’t help but drift downward.
Patient ID 526 lying on the ground was truly seriously injured…
