A year passed, and I was already sixteen.

I stroked my chin and decided it was about time I found myself a husband to marry into the family.

After all, I was now the mistress of a modest little household with property to my name.

I wavered between the scholars heading to the capital for the imperial exams and the young men from the village estate.

When his father and stepmother heard I was looking for a husband to marry into my family, they immediately wanted to sell him off.
I had Feng Dazhuang called over.

I asked him, “Are you willing to marry into my family?”

His face turned bright red, and he nodded.

I said, “Once you marry in, you can only listen to me. You won’t be allowed to contact your family anymore. It’ll be the same as selling yourself to me. Whatever I tell you to do, you have to do it.”

He quickly nodded. “I’m willing.”

After saying that, he even glanced at me shyly.

I told him to go call his father and stepmother over.

Watching his back as he left, I thought to myself, He really is getting the better end of this deal.

Feng Dazhuang’s father and stepmother didn’t dare ask for too much.

After all, they still had to rent my family’s fields.

I had them put their fingerprints on the contract, then called people over to witness it. Just like that, Feng Dazhuang was more or less a husband I’d bought for myself.

Afterward, Feng Dazhuang followed me back to the city.
