Chapter 3

I was distracted by this turn of events.

Yunyang whispered, “I never expected Zhao Zimo to be that kind of person. To think he grew up as your childhood friend-I actually thought he was one of the good ones. Truly, you can’t judge a book by its cover. Don’t be angry. You can pick anyone you want from this garden full of men. Whoever you choose is yours, just… don’t pick one specific person.”

She cast a lingering, affectionate glance toward Young Master Wang.

I thought about it and said, “Young Master Wang is indeed a fine choice, but it’s a pity…”

Hongxiao was getting anxious, and her inner thoughts began to curse a blue streak.

[Even though he doesn’t have a malicious bone in his body, he can only ever be a ‘sister’ to you. Princess, if you end up with him, you’ll be a widow in all but name for the rest of your life! Meanwhile, he and his lover will be living it up right under your nose.]

Lover…

If they were to live it up right under my nose, it had to be someone close to Young Master Wang.

Young Master Wang certainly wouldn’t settle for an ordinary servant.

So, who was he close with?

At the banquet, Young Master Wang appeared refined and elegant, with delicate features and bright, spirited eyes. When he noticed people staring, he would blush, cutting a truly pitiable and endearing figure.

I ordered a maid to refill Young Master Wang’s tea. Her hand trembled slightly, accidentally wetting his robes.

The most nervous person at the table turned out to be Young Master Wang’s older cousin.

His brow furrowed, and he shot the maid a cold, unfriendly look. After asking Young Master Wang if he had been scalded, he personally escorted him away to change his clothes.

I grabbed Yunyang and slipped into the room adjacent to where the two were changing. I pulled out a listening device and pressed it against the wall, giving another one to Yunyang.

A series of pained, suppressed groans drifted from the other side.

Yunyang frowned and mouthed a question to me.

“What are they doing?”

My silly girl…

What else could they be doing? Naturally, they were doing what they loved most.

Before long, the realization hit Yunyang. Her face turned beet red, and she ran away, covering her face in embarrassment.

I straightened my clothes and waited for my burning ears to cool down before walking out unhurriedly.

Meanwhile, that pair of devoted lovebirds in the next room hadn’t finished applying their “medicine” or changing their clothes yet…

I returned to the banquet and took a sharp gulp of water, just in time to hear Hongxiao’s confused thoughts.

[Wait, why are the Princess and the County Princess both blushing? They couldn’t be… Holy crap, are the Princess and the County Princess lesbians? Let me check…]

[Thank goodness they aren’t, thank goodness. If that were the case, the Princess would be doing a huge disservice to Long Zhao, who’s out there defending the country for her.]

[Agh, why hasn’t the Princess picked someone yet? Look at Long Zhao! He’s your fated match. Ah, I guess I was just born to worry.]

I looked up at Long Zhao. He was drinking tea with an elegant posture, listening to the idle chatter of those around him. His manner was refined, and his gaze was steady-at a glance, he looked like a man who was not easily swayed.

Sensing my gaze, he turned to look at me and gave a respectful bow.

Hongxiao was overjoyed.

[Hehehe, there’s a spark! My ship is sailing!]

I gave a slight nod and then looked elsewhere.

In that case, I definitely couldn’t choose Long Zhao.

I was afraid that if I picked the right person, my little maid would stop screaming.
