Chapter 4
Chapter 4
I thought I was going to smash to pieces.
But as I fell through the air, the stone in my hand suddenly turned scorching hot. My whole fruit-body felt light as air, and my rate of descent instantly slowed.
I drifted downward as lightly as a feather.
And landed right on Snow White’s head…
The princess really might have been hungry enough to eat anything.
The moment she grabbed me, she tried to stuff me into her mouth.
When I first flew out the window, I was secretly delighted. Didn’t this count as escaping? Breaking free from the main plot?
Who would’ve thought that in the very next instant, I’d arrive ahead of schedule at the same plot point by a different route?
Life really is full of surprises.
Luckily, I’d learned a trick from Book Sis beforehand.
In an instant, I made myself hard as iron.
“Crack.”
I chipped one of Snow White’s teeth.
The Little Princess held her fallen tooth in her hands and cried so hard the world practically turned upside down.
I tried to comfort her. “You’re at the age when kids lose their baby teeth. It’ll grow back.”
She didn’t believe me and cried even harder.
The noise gave me a headache.
I racked my brains, trying to come up with some way to distract her.
“Hey, let me ask you something. Why do you think I hit your head when I fell down?”
The crying grew quieter.
“What I mean is, why do apples only fall toward the ground, instead of in some other direction?”
The crying stopped.
Clearly, the question was beyond the Little Princess.
She spent the whole afternoon clutching her broken tooth and still couldn’t figure it out.
I tried several times to give her hints, but she refused every one.
“Be quiet. I want to figure it out myself.”
All right, then.
Our princess here was an independent, self-motivated good kid who loved digging into problems.
But it was getting late.
Before long, her mother the Queen would come call her to dinner.
If she saw me still standing here completely unharmed, I had no idea what she might do on impulse.
I gazed gloomily at the sky for a while, then glanced at the still-frowning Little Princess deep in thought before speaking slowly.
“Actually, I fell because I wanted to fall.”
The Little Princess fell silent for a moment.
I added,
“There isn’t any profound principle behind it. If you want to fall, then naturally you fall. It’s the same as when you’re hungry at a time like this and want to eat. Oh, speaking of eating, I know that as the smartest child in the entire palace, you definitely don’t need the Queen to personally come call you. You’ll put your toys down early, walk to the table all by yourself, and wash your hands ahead of time too, right…”
The Little Princess reached out one small hand, lifted me up to eye level, and forcibly cut me off.
With her lips pressed together, she stared at me for a long while.
“Then fly for me.”
Before I had time to think, she hurled me upward with all her strength.
It was only when the ground got farther and farther away that I finally realized what was happening!
Oh, for crying out loud!
Why were this mother and daughter exactly the same?!
Always springing surprise attacks out of nowhere!
And both of them were weirdly into throwing things from high places!
As I started falling, I heard the Little Princess below yelling at me:
“Don’t fall down! Fly up into the sky!”
Me: “…”
Kids these days really aren’t that easy to fool.
But even with the stone from the Magic Mirror, all I could do was slow my fall a little. It was nowhere near enough to actually make me fly.
So when the Queen rushed over, what she saw was me landing squarely on Snow White’s forehead once again.
