Chapter 2

She really was, without a doubt, a complete fool.

The next day, I was startled when I saw Chu Yu come to the temple looking for me.

She actually dared to come back?

This time, she brought me a whole basket of paper money, along with ten flatbreads.

She set them on my altar table with the utmost care.

“I went to pay respects to my parents.”

“Immortal Lady, I don’t really have any wishes. If I have to make one, then I only wish for my parents to rest in peace underground.”

I smelled the fragrance of the flatbreads, and my expression softened a little.

“Didn’t I tell you that after you die, you’ll ascend to Elysium?”

“When the time comes, won’t you be reunited with your parents?”

Chu Yu shook her head. “Immortal Lady, I know. Anyone who satisfies their greed and undergoes Skin-changing dies a miserable death.”

“You don’t have to comfort me. It’s my fault for being unlucky and burning paper money randomly, disturbing your peace.”

My lie had been exposed.

I instantly flew into a fit of embarrassment and anger. “Who said I was comforting you? Forget it. I can’t be bothered to do this deal with you anymore.”

“I’ll make an exception and spare your life.”

The little girl’s eyes lit up at once, and her smile nearly spilled over.

She kowtowed to me with loud thuds. “Thank you, Immortal Lady. Thank you, Immortal Lady.”

As she knocked her head against the ground, the bruises on her wrist were glaringly obvious.

I still couldn’t bear to give up that beauty’s skin of hers.

That skin would be mine one day.

So when I saw the bruises on her hand, it was as if someone had damaged my skin.

I immediately asked, “First, explain yourself. How did you get those injuries on your hand?”

Chu Yu’s face went white, and she hurried to cover them.

I instantly summoned a demonic wind and lifted part of her sleeves and skirt hem.

If I hadn’t looked, I wouldn’t have known. Once I did, I was shocked.

Her legs and arms were covered in bruises of every size.

My heart ached so badly I could have died. That was my beauty’s skin.

“Hurry up and tell me. How did you get these injuries? If you don’t, I won’t spare you after all.”

Chu Yu hemmed and hawed for a long time before finally saying that her maternal aunt and maternal uncle had beaten her.

It turned out that her parents had died early, so she had been raised by her maternal uncle and maternal aunt.

Her maternal aunt made her sell a basket of flatbreads every day. If she failed to sell them all, her maternal aunt would beat her.

Chu Yu was terrified.

That was why, when business had been bad yesterday and she had not sold everything, she had wanted to spend the night in the temple.

I was so angry I could have spat fire.

I absolutely had to stop that husband and wife. Otherwise, my beauty’s skin would be ruined in their hands.

So I snapped off the little finger on my right hand and handed it to her.

“Take this. It can help you.”

Chu Yu was both shocked and delighted. “Can this help me sell all my flatbreads?”

I couldn’t help rolling my eyes. “How pathetic.”

“Put this under your maternal uncle and maternal aunt’s bed, and it will make them stop making things difficult for you.”

Chu Yu hesitated. “Will it have any bad effect on them?”

I snapped, “No. It will only make them calm and peaceful.”

Watching her leave, I smiled darkly.

I had lied to her.

I was a spirit. How could I possibly have a spell that made people calm and peaceful?

In truth, it would drain the essence from her maternal uncle and maternal aunt, leaving them muddleheaded and dazed.

Naturally, they would no longer have the energy to torment anyone else.
