Chapter 3

The next day, I arrived at the Joyous Union Sect brimming with confidence, Third Senior Sister beside me.

Second Senior Brother had followed us for reasons unknown, as had Fifth Junior Brother, who had not managed to walk in a straight line since entering the gates.

I pointed behind us. “Why did you bring him?”

Third Senior Sister looked profound. “Everyone needs to weather a few storms before they can grow.”

“Fine. You’re carrying him home later.”

“The only one allowed in my arms is Xuexue!”

I ignored her, because I had just spotted—

“Yan Wuxia!”

At my shout, the pink-robed youth looked back. Our eyes met.

Then he turned and ran.

Me: “?”

I leaped onto my flying sword and chased him.

He was from the Joyous Union Sect. Naturally, he could not outrun me, and I caught him in no time.

“Why are you running? I came to have some fun with you!”

Yan Wuxia’s eyes lit up, only to dim again just as quickly. “I can’t beat Meng Yu.”

Me: “? What does my senior brother have to do with this? I’m the one who wants to have fun with you.”

Yan Wuxia opened his mouth, then closed it.

Suddenly, his gaze darted past me and snapped back. A trace of mischief entered his expression.

“This has nothing to do with your senior brother? So you really do want to have some fun with me?”

I nodded solemnly.

“Then if your senior brother and I were both in danger, which of us would you save first?”

I stared at him in shock. “My senior brother, obviously!”

Yan Wuxia froze. When he recovered, he ground out, “Fine. Fine! If I ever fall for another sword cultivator, I’m a complete idiot!”

He stormed off.

I was about to chase after him when a cool, clear voice stopped me.

“Junior Sister.”

Second Senior Brother walked up and looked down at me.

“Why did you suddenly decide to seek him out?”

I gave him the concise version. “Master wants him to marry into our sect.”

Second Senior Brother nodded, his face expressionless.

I studied him, then hesitantly voiced what he was thinking.

“Senior Brother? Why do you suddenly want to hit Master? Even after switching to the Carefree Way, beating up our master would be a little too carefree, wouldn’t it?”

After much persuasion, Second Senior Brother finally, reluctantly, abandoned the idea.

Third Senior Sister had also succeeded in inviting the Joyous Union Sect to the symposium. My opinion of her social abilities improved dramatically.

“Senior Sister, how did you do it?”

Cradling her sword, she smiled.

“I carried my beloved Xuexue into the Joyous Union Sect’s main hall. Some of their disciples wore swords too, but whether you looked at the patterns, the tassels, or the blades, not one of them could compare to Xuexue…”

I calmly listened to Third Senior Sister praise her sword in every imaginable way for half an incense stick before she finally reached the point.

“The moment I said Master had invited them, the Joyous Union Sect Master stroked an imaginary beard and cackled:

“‘Is that old bastard from Sword One Sect trying to rise where he fell? Hmph! In his dreams. This sect master will show him how to trip over the same stone twice!’”

Me: “…”

Third Senior Sister added, “But the Joyous Union Sect Master is a strange one.”

“You think so too?”

“Of course! It’s one thing when our master strokes a beard that isn’t there, but why would she do it? She’s a woman!”

Me: “…”

That was our Third Senior Sister for you.

We walked a little farther and passed through our own mountain gate.

Third Senior Sister suddenly asked, “Don’t you feel like we’ve forgotten something?”

I thought about it. “No. You invited the Joyous Union Sect, and I found Yan Wuxia. We finished everything we came to do.”

She nodded.

That evening, just as I was about to go to sleep, Third Senior Sister pounded frantically on my door.

“Oh no! We forgot to carry Little Five home!”
