Chapter 6

Between heaven and earth, the wind ceased and the rain subsided.

All was silent.

Only a silent whirlpool remained, swirling larger and larger, as if it intended to drain the Great Marsh dry.

Those mortals with their youthful appearances exchanged uneasy glances.

Finally, the person at the very front was the first to react.

“Run-”

It was too late.

“Execute!” I intoned, my voice deep and resonant.

Terrifying waves surged up behind me, instantly swallowing those cultivators whole.

[Wait, she’s actually this strong?!]

[Well, she was specifically designed as a vessel for the Female Lead, so it’s normal for her to be a bit powerful.]

[Dammit, she’s exploiting a bug!]

[…]

The danmaku was right once again.

I was indeed the strongest Jiao in the history of the Great Marsh.

Heaven had made me extraordinary, yet it had truly intended for me to be nothing more than a stepping stone for others.

But I had already broken my vow against killing!

I might as well enjoy myself to the fullest!

I fought my way up to the Jiao-Slaying Sect.

At a single glance, I recognized the staggeringly massive skull of the old Jiao at the entrance.

Wasn’t that the same one who had advised me that “even mud has its own way of living”?

He had been a ten-thousand-year-old Jiao with profound cultivation; it was absolutely impossible for him to have been killed by mortals.

Unfortunately, he ultimately couldn’t win against the Heavens. He had tried to gamble with the last of his lifespan and died.

In that sense, his end was grand and tragic-the kind of death we deserved.

I couldn’t help but let out a mocking laugh, roaring toward the sky.

“Yuchuanzi! Did you kill this old Jiao? You actually dragged him back just to use as a storefront?!

“You shameless bastard-”

A massive palm descended from the sky.

The hypocritical voice of Yuchuanzi, the Sect Leader of the Jiao-Slaying Sect, rang in my ears.

“Vile beast, cease your slaughter. Repent, and the shore is at hand!”

I closed my eyes.

“Myriad Jiao Souls, Hear My Command-”

A sorrowful Jiao cry rang out.

First there was one, then more and more, gradually converging like ten thousand rivers returning to the sea, exploding into a colossal jiao dragon’s roar.

Transparent Jiao Souls surged from behind me, racing toward the sky and tearing that giant palm to shreds.

Following a scream laced with fury, a massive Jiao head descended from the heavens, crashing heavily onto the palaces that looked like a dreamlike fairyland.

The jiao dragon vanished in an instant.

But the ground shook, and the mountains trembled.

In a flash, people-countless people, dense and swarming like gnats-flew out from the collapsing mountain gates.

“Vile beast! How dare you harm our Sect Leader! Die!”

“Everyone! Attack together! She can only use that move once!”

“Slay this evil Jiao and restore peace to the world!”

I’m truly sorry about that.

Even my mere breathing would ensure this world never knows peace.

I slaughtered from dusk until dawn.

Then from dawn until dusk again.

I reached the point where I truly couldn’t kill anymore.

I had slaughtered so many that a mountain of corpses and a sea of blood lay beneath my feet!

Yet when I looked up, the air was still filled with a dense crowd of people.

Caught off guard, I was struck by a sneak attack and knocked back into the giant waves of the Great Marsh.

They were shouting-

“Everyone, search! We can’t let her escape!”

People. There were so many people.

A literal sea of humanity.

Suddenly, it dawned on me.

Mother, Father, Aunt, Third Great-Uncle, Second Maternal Uncle, and all the ancestors I had never met…

I think I finally know why we had to avoid mortals!
