Chapter 2
Chapter 2
I went back to my room and opened the Black Leather Handbook my mother had left me.
My mother had told me that within a month at most, a newer girlfriend would definitely appear at my father’s side.
“If that happens, don’t make a scene. Wei Yao will charge in before you do.” Between the lines, she had urged me again and again.
Meeting movement with stillness-that was the first thing my mother taught me.
As a little girl, I believed her. Even though I would secretly cry at night, I gritted my teeth and held on. Every day, I treated that woman with warmth and smiles, acting as if I had no backbone at all and depended on her completely.
Although Wei Yao planned to send me away, she was also very eager to win me over for now.
My parents’ relationship had been bad for years. She had always wanted to squeeze my mother out, and now that my mother was truly gone, how could she not want to take her place?
After all, my father was no chaste paragon either. For most of his life, he had been extremely fickle.
Seeing that I not only did not reject her but accepted her readily, her thoughts grew even more active.
She not only filled my home with her own things, but also began appearing frequently at my father’s side, staking her claim, intending to make those restless women back off on their own.
After enduring it for a week, Wei Yao’s reach grew longer and longer, and my father was already showing faint signs of displeasure.
Following the instructions in the handbook, I went to find my maternal grandparents.
Using the excuse that I had lost my mother at such a young age, Grandma and Grandpa proposed moving in to keep me company for a while.
My timing was perfect. One week was enough for Wei Yao to arrange my home exactly the way she liked it. The moment she had just finished her great project, Grandma and Grandpa swept her right out the door. With that psychological whiplash, plus wave after wave of ridicule from outside, how could her composure not collapse?
She egged my father on, trying to have me sent to Grandma and Grandpa’s place. My aunt came straight to our door and slapped her so hard she went sprawling. “My eldest sister has only just passed away, and you already want to send Jiaojiao away? What, are you trying to seize my eldest sister’s property for yourself?!”
My aunt came from a poor background and was extremely sensitive when it came to money, valuables, cars, and houses. Wei Yao wanted me to live with Grandma and Grandpa, which would introduce uncertainty over who would eventually get the old couple’s apartment. Wasn’t that the same as stabbing my aunt right in her sore spot? Wei Yao deserved that slap.
Never try to take away the one thing that keeps a woman going in a failed marriage. I understood that truth when I was very young.
Wei Yao, however, had lived this long and still did not understand it.

My Mother’s Leather Handbook
Mom had a Leather Handbook that recorded every woman Dad kept on the side.
One of them, Aunt Wei, was marked in particular.
In Mom’s delicate handwriting, she had written: This...
