Chapter 3
When I woke the next morning, Huo Zheng was still home.
I couldn’t face any of it.
So I kept my eyes shut and pretended to be asleep.
Huo Zheng didn’t wake me.
He only placed a light kiss on my forehead before he left.
What was this about?
Terrifying.
Were we that kind of couple?!
After that day, Huo Zheng moved into the master bedroom.
And shared my bed.
Perhaps he noticed how tense I was.
Most of the time, he didn’t touch me.
He just held me while we slept.
But even that was enough to make me blanch.
Hadn’t we agreed to have our own fun?
Was he going to fool around outside and still refuse to leave me alone at home?!
What a greedy man!
Clearly, I didn’t have his nerves of steel.
Since that night, I hadn’t seen Fu Ciyan for an entire week.
I didn’t dare answer his messages, either.
Then I scrolled past his late-night WeChat Moments posts.
[Women aren’t a necessity. There’s no need to be glued to each other every day.]
[Fuck, why is she still ignoring me? I don’t want to live.]
I shook with laughter.
My hand slipped, and I hit Like.
Oh God!
I didn’t dare open my eyes. Please let it have been a hallucination.
Fu Ciyan’s messages arrived almost immediately.
[?]
[Wen Yining, is watching me lose my mind fun for you?]
[Did I do something wrong the last time we met? Tell me. I’ll change it. I’ll change anything.]
[Please don’t ignore me.]
My heart gave one painful squeeze after another as I read.
I had no choice but to make time to see him.
After seven days apart, Fu Ciyan didn’t look well.
There were dark circles under his eyes and a fierce edge to his expression.
All my kisses and hugs did nothing to improve his mood.
His body, however, was much more honest.
Then he slipped off my dress.
He suddenly went rigid.
His fingertips pressed hard into the small of my back.
He asked me.
“These marks.”
“What are they?”
I froze.
Only then did I realize there were several dark bruises Huo Zheng had left on my fair, soft back.
Fu Ciyan’s voice shook. “So you’ve had someone else all this time?”
“Wen Yining, I thought you at least loved me.”
Seeing his face abruptly turn pale, I hurried to reassure him.
“Of course I love you.”
“There isn’t anyone else.”
“It was only my husband. Don’t worry!”
Fu Ciyan: “…?”
Then his teeth clenched.
“Didn’t you say he never touched you?”
“That he didn’t care about you at all?”
“Weren’t you supposed to be having your own fun?”
I scratched my head.
“Well, I am a great beauty.”
“It’s only human for him to suddenly lose his head over me.”
“I’m his wife, after all. How could I refuse?”
Fu Ciyan stared at me darkly for a long moment.
Then gave a cold laugh.
“His wife. Of course.”
He suddenly bit down on my shoulder.
It hurt so much that I kept kicking him.
But he kissed me again.
He was so close.
Close enough that I could see the tiny droplets clinging to his eyelashes.
I heard him say softly.
“Wen Yining, at least don’t love him.”
“Love only me. Please?”
I still hadn’t recovered from the pain.
“…All right.”
