Chapter 3

It turned out a 2,899-yuan meal required a reservation.

Realizing I might not get my free treat after all, I looked utterly disappointed.

But Liang Moyang made a phone call, and the manager personally came to greet us, all smiles, and led us into a private dining room.

I was happy again.

Liang Moyang glanced at me. “Could you be any more obvious?”

Of course I couldn’t help it.

When the food arrived, I took a heap of photos, then asked Liang Moyang to take a couple of me.

He looked a little speechless, but obliged.

“Can you stop posing like an idiot?”

Taking hold of my sleeve, he helped me adjust my pose.

Suddenly, the door opened.

Ren Cen came over, expressionless, and without a word began hitting Liang Moyang with her handbag.

After only a couple of blows, she started crying.

Large tears slid down to her finely shaped chin.

“Liang Moyang, what is this supposed to mean?”

“You have time to eat with someone else but no time to answer my message?”

Liang Moyang stood still and let her hit him.

It seemed to have happened so many times that he was already used to her tantrums.

When she’d had enough, Liang Moyang said, “You mean the message saying you wanted to break up?”

“How did you want me to answer? Agree or disagree?”

I stood there awkwardly, afraid to move or make a sound.

I was terrified I’d be next.

“Tell me to my face!” Ren Cen stared at him. “I want to break up. Do you agree or not?”

Liang Moyang frowned, his eyes dark.

“I’d like you to answer something to my face too.”

“Are you serious, or are you just saying it because you’re angry?”

“If you’re serious, I agree.”

Ren Cen went perfectly still.

After a few seconds, she gave Liang Moyang a cold look, then glanced at me.

“I was saying it out of anger before. Now I’m serious.”

“And if that’s the quality you’re cheating with, don’t tell people you ever dated me. It’s embarrassing.”

I was the one she was insulting, yet she kept her eyes fixed on Liang Moyang as she delivered the threat.

As though the whole world was just scenery for their little games.

Liang Moyang didn’t argue.

He nodded instead.

“Thanks for your concern. As long as I like what I see, that’s enough.”

Furious, Ren Cen kicked away an eye-shadow compact that had fallen out of her bag.

Then she turned and left.

Only then did I notice Xie Lindao had been standing in the doorway all along.

His expression was indifferent, as though nothing happening in the room had anything to do with him.

But just before leaving, he suddenly turned back and looked at me.
