Returning to campus, the atmosphere was tense.
No one expected me to show up.
And no one welcomed my arrival.
I stood at the classroom door, mockery ringing in my ears.
“She still dares to show her face after dragging Yu Sili down so badly.”
“Probably saw Yu Sili’s success and regretted it.”
“She was a pathological liar back then, and now she’s even more shameless.”
I straightened my spine and acted as if I hadn’t heard a thing.
Today was a special class reunion.
Our entire class had been invited to film a promotional video for our alma mater.
Because our class had produced a major celebrity, Yu Sili.
He debuted right after high school, his career smooth sailing, and in just five years, he had become a top-tier A‑list star.
This promotional video revolved entirely around him.
To help Yu Sili recapture the feeling of high school, the class president had specially invited everyone from the class.
Everyone but me.
“Li Li,” the class president came up to me, “Yu Sili will be here soon. Could you step aside for a while?”
I stayed silent.
The class president thought I was reluctant to leave. “It’s not that I want to chase you out, it’s just… To be honest, the invitation list was sent to me by Yu Sili.”
I finally looked at him slowly.
“And your name wasn’t on that list.”
The class president’s voice was soft, but firm.
“Yu Sili doesn’t want to see you.”
Back in school, there wasn’t a single person who didn’t know Yu Sili.
He was dazzling, surrounded by admirers like stars around the moon.
And he was madly in love with me.
Yet, when we broke up, I shattered his pride utterly.
He almost lost his life.
It was only natural that he didn’t want to see me.
I withdrew outside the classroom to wait.
A short while later, Yu Sili arrived.
Surrounded by the camera crew, he didn’t notice me.
After so many years, he was even more striking than in high school. His already stunning features, enhanced by a professional team, radiated a breathtaking beauty that was almost hard to look at directly.
The moment he stepped into the classroom, the whole class fell silent.
Yu Sili headed straight for his old seat.
As he passed the desk in front of his, his steps paused slightly.
That had been my seat. Now it was empty.
“Move this desk and chair out,” he said.
His assistant looked puzzled. “Why move it out?”
“It’s empty. It’ll look bad in the shot.”
“Oh, okay, got it.”
The desk and chair I had once used were promptly lifted and dumped carelessly in the hallway.
No one cared.
Before filming began, there was an interview segment.
The campus reporter asked, “I heard Senior Yu had excellent grades, but there was one semester where you ranked near the bottom. Can you tell us why?”
“Did I?”
“Yes, it was the second semester of sophomore year.”
“I don’t remember,” Yu Sili said with a faint smile.
He seemed to truly not remember.
But I remembered all too well-
That year, Yu Sili shocked everyone by placing in the bottom ten in the monthly exam.
The homeroom teacher called him to the office for a talk.
I happened to walk past the window, carrying homework.
He suddenly turned and looked at me.
After returning from the office, Yu Sili poked me in the back.
“Student Li Li, you heard the teacher scolding me, didn’t you?”
“Yeah.”
“I lost a lot of face. To make up for it, why don’t you explain the problems to me?”
As he spoke, he grinned at me.
That boy’s smile, wild and unrestrained,
set my entire youth ablaze.
Later, Yu Sili told me he had deliberately bombed the exam.
He had planned it all along.
But now, Yu Sili claimed he didn’t remember.
I stared at the discarded desk, lost in thought.
Inside the classroom, the atmosphere remained lively.
“Last question, and it might be a bit gossipy… Senior Yu, during your school days, did you ever love someone heart-wrenchingly, to the point of desperation?”
The class fell silent again.
No one knew how long the silence lasted.
Yu Sili tugged at the corner of his mouth as if in self-mockery.
“Never.”
