Chapter 7

Meng Ye hadn’t left the manor for many days. Despite using medicine worth a thousand gold pieces on the young girl, that flower-like face of hers hadn’t been saved.

Meng Ye was frantic with worry. Finally, while I was busy praying for our child’s blessings, he slipped out of the manor to offer her his comfort.

In a private room at the Drunken Fragrance Pavilion, the young girl wore a veil, weeping and sobbing as she burrowed into Meng Ye’s arms, acting coquettishly with all her might.

“Didn’t you say I was soft and fragrant, and that you’d gladly die in my arms?

“How could you bear not to enter my bedroom for so many days? Do you despise me because of the scar on my face?”

Meng Ye coaxed her repeatedly.

“Nonsense. Even with a scar, you are an irreplaceable treasure in my heart.”

The girl hooked her arms softly around his neck.

“When you sleep next to that old woman, aren’t you disgusted? Don’t you miss me? Do you have any idea how much I’ve missed you?”

“Silly girl, my heart and eyes only have room for you and our child. This is just a temporary measure; you must endure it for a little while.”

“She is a tigress from a family of generals. How could I not be careful? I can’t have you walking into the lion’s den.”

He coaxed her with meticulous tenderness, shredding pieces of roast duck bit by bit, neatly arranging them on her plate, and then feeding them into her mouth with a smile.

Having received a bit of sweetness, the girl’s lips curled into a smile.

“Then you aren’t allowed to feed yourself to that tigress. You belong to me alone; you can only give yourself to me.”

Saying this, she stood up and twirled, holding the hem of her skirt.

“Look at me. Does this outfit match the Dongzhu Pearl earrings?

“They say these pearls are bigger and brighter than eyeballs.

“Next time we’re intimate, I’ll let you use your tongue to take them off for me.”

Meng Ye’s hand, which was tearing a duck leg, paused. He pulled her into his arms and was about to lean in for a bite of her vermillion lips when he looked up and saw me standing outside the door with a beaming smile.

He was so terrified that his body froze. He stared blankly at my smiling face, his expression filled with panic.

At that moment, the young girl was still pouting, burrowing into his chest while acting spoiled.

“You’re so naughty. Doing this here… it’s far too embarrassing.”

“Don’t blame me if I bite you silently like I did on the boat.”

“If that old woman finds out, don’t blame me.”

Sensing Meng Ye’s stiffness and trembling, she opened her eyes reproachfully.

But the moment she saw me, her expression froze, and she hid behind Meng Ye.

The scar on her face had been decorated with a painted border-a lifelike butterfly blooming on her cheek, which actually added a touch of seductive charm.

These seductive tactics were enough for the legal wife of a noble house to study for a lifetime; no wonder Meng Ye couldn’t bear to let her go.

I stepped closer, and amidst Meng Ye’s terror, I held out my palm.

“My Dongzhu Pearls-you gave them to her?

“Can you return them to me today?”

My tone was light and breezy, and there was even a hint of a smile on my lips.

Meng Ye’s pupils contracted. Almost instantly, he blocked Wen Yunyang from my sight, stammering at me:

“Jinhua, why are you here?

“Have you had lunch? Would you like something to eat?”

The young girl looked timid, biting her lip and clutching Meng Ye’s sleeve as if she were afraid I wouldn’t notice her relationship with him.

I asked again:

“Will you return them?”

Before Meng Ye could say anything, Wen Yunyang dropped to her knees before me.
