Chapter 1

When the Muyuan Sword in my hand ran me clean through,

I was stunned.

The sword spirit emerged, frowning in pity as he looked at my wound.

“Sorry. That went a few inches deeper than I expected.”

“But it was the only thing I could do in the moment. If I hadn’t turned the blade, you would have hurt Haitang.”

I looked at Ji Haitang standing across from me, completely unharmed.

Then I lowered my head and looked at the gaping, bloody hole in my own body.

Before I collapsed from sheer exhaustion, I forced out one last sentence with everything I had.

“You dumbass. If you didn’t want to hurt her, couldn’t you have just broken yourself?”

“Why the hell did you stab me?”

The Sacred Sword Sect’s Chief Swordsman tournament was held once every ten years.

For the past hundred years, I had been the Sacred Sword Sect’s undisputed number one swordsmanship genius.

Everyone in the sect said the title of Chief Disciple this year was as good as mine.

But now…

My title of “number one genius” had been replaced by another first:

“The first swordsman under heaven to be wounded by her own sword.”

When I woke up,

several junior disciples were whispering outside my door.

My hearing was extraordinary.

Every word they deliberately lowered their voices to say reached my ears without fail.

“Eldest Senior Sister really lost all face this time.”

“A swordsman actually got injured by her own sword-and all because it didn’t want to hurt her opponent?”

“If I were her, I’d slit my own throat the moment I woke up. Better than living on and embarrassing myself.”

“What number one swordsman? Isn’t she only relying on the Muyuan Sword? Anyone who had the Muyuan Sword could become number one under heaven.”

“Then this year’s Chief Disciple is Senior Sister Haitang, right?”

“Of course. The Sect Leader is overjoyed. He’s sending invitations everywhere, asking the leaders of all the sects to gather at the Sacred Sword Sect and celebrate his daughter’s victory as Chief Disciple.”

“I’m so jealous.”

Hearing that, I sighed.

The Sacred Sword Sect really was getting worse year by year.

They were actually taking in disciples of this caliber now.

Their babbling gave me a headache.

I raised my hand and sent a fierce gust of palm wind sweeping toward the door.

The door didn’t budge.

The junior disciples outside, however, were blasted several meters back, slammed into the big tree in the courtyard, and then crashed heavily to the ground.

After dealing with the loose-tongued ones,

I was just about to close my eyes and rest a little longer

when someone pushed the door open and came in carrying a bowl of medicinal decoction.

I didn’t need to look to know it was the sword spirit of Mu Yuan.

“You just woke up. You shouldn’t get angry.”

“Those were all outer sect disciples with little cultivation. That one palm of yours will have them recuperating for at least half a month.”

I opened my eyes.

My hollow gaze fixed on the ceiling beams.

“That sword strike of yours will have me recuperating for at least half a month too.”

Mu Yuan fell silent.

He walked lightly to my bedside and sat down.

“Come on. Drink the medicine.”

“It was gifted by the Medicine Peak Elder. It will help with your injury.”
