Chapter 75
Chapter 75
Yes or no? For the first time, Tu Nan found a question incredibly difficult to answer.
However, she didn’t have to struggle with it for long, as Hans answered for her through his actions.
He leaned forward and licked Tu Nan’s fingertips, his wet nose repeatedly nuzzling against her palm.
The Dean took all of this in, a strange glint flashing through his eyes.
Just as Daisy had said, Hans was a dog that didn’t particularly enjoy being close to people.
He crouched down and scratched Hans under the chin. Hans let out a low, rumbling purr-like sound, half-closing his eyes as if he wanted to retreat into the touch.
The Dean was very different from what Tu Nan had imagined.
He didn’t look villainous or even particularly stiff and serious; instead, he was young and handsome, with a cold, sharp aura.
“It’s rare to see Hans take such a liking to someone.” The Dean stood up and glanced at her.
He spoke without any emotion, his voice flat and matter-of-fact, yet his gaze was heavy with pressure.
Danger alarms blared incessantly in Tu Nan’s mind.
She didn’t think Hans liking her was a good thing. The Dean was highly suspicious; he might form a negative impression of her because of this abnormal behavior.
For her, this situation brought a hundred harms and not a single benefit.
“That’s because Tu Nan helped Hans put his internal organs back together!” Daisy said in an unusually lively tone, appearing completely oblivious to the strange atmosphere between them.
“Is that so?” Hearing this, the Dean finally shifted his gaze away from Tu Nan.
Tu Nan couldn’t help but let out a silent sigh of relief.
Only then did she realize she had broken out in a cold sweat, her forehead covered in a fine sheen of perspiration.
“What’s wrong with you?” Daisy gave her a strange look. “It doesn’t seem that hot today.”
“It’s nothing.” Tu Nan wiped the sweat from her brow. “I’ve been out for quite a while now. My patient still needs me, so I should head back.”
She looked at the Dean and paused. Seeing him give a slight nod, she finally felt at ease. She turned and left quickly.
The Dean watched her figure disappear from sight before turning to Daisy. His gaze was cold, his voice carrying a hint of warning.
“Daisy, don’t bring people to see Hans whenever you feel like it while I’m away.”
Daisy stuck out her tongue. “I just thought Hans was too bored staying here.”
Pristley didn’t say anything, but his expression darkened.
Daisy finally dropped the act, standing obediently and lowering her head to admit her mistake. “I understand. I won’t do it again.”
Pristley produced a piece of meat from somewhere and crouched down to feed Hans.
Hans snapped at it from his hand, tearing into it with large bites as saliva dripped onto the floor.
Daisy felt a surge of fear every time she saw this. She always felt like Hans might bite the Dean’s hand off in one go, but Hans had never once injured Pristley.
After finishing the meat, Pristley stood up and took out a white handkerchief to wipe his hands methodically.
His movements were meticulous, cleaning even the spaces between his fingers bit by bit before crumpling the handkerchief into a ball and tossing it aside carelessly.
“Find someone to clean this up,” he said softly.
“Yes.” Daisy nodded, looking as if she wanted to say more.
Pristley glanced at her. “If you have something to say, say it.”
“Weren’t you supposed to be away for at least another week?” Daisy asked in a low voice.
“Tomorrow is Visiting Day. There is someone I simply must see.” Pristley’s brow furrowed slightly, clearly showing his impatience regarding the matter.
“How has Maria been lately?” he asked again.
“Miss Maria is doing quite well,” Daisy replied after a moment’s thought. “The nurse you saw just now is the new one assigned to Miss Maria’s ward.”
Pristley’s eyes flickered slightly. After a long silence, the corners of his mouth curled upward. “There truly are so many coincidences in this world.”

Tu Nan returned to the fourth floor and first made her rounds through the wards.
Everything was normal in Ward 403. Ward 404… seemed normal.
Patients’ lunches were delivered to their wards daily by dedicated staff, but Tu Nan realized she had forgotten a very important detail.
In his current state, Eric had no way of feeding himself.
This meant she had to be the one to feed him his lunch.
If she missed the lunch hour, Eric could easily file a complaint against her for negligence.
Fortunately, she hadn’t returned too late, and there was still plenty of time.
Eric lay on the bed, unable to move anything except his eyes, which he used to glare at Tu Nan with pure resentment.
Tu Nan was practically immune to his gaze by now. Carrying the meal delivered by the cafeteria, she sat down beside Eric, scooped up a spoonful, and held it to his lips.
Eric glared at her furiously and forced his head to the side, expressing his protest through action.
Tu Nan understood Eric well. How could someone who previously had such a powerful obsession with food endure the mundane meal she held in her hand?
In Eric’s eyes, this was probably no different from pig slop. He would never eat it!
“Just leave it aside. If he gets hungry enough, do you think he won’t eat?” York said with a smile, having long grown tired of this drama.
Tu Nan hesitated.
Eric clearly didn’t want to eat, but if he didn’t, it would be a failure of her duties. If she forced him to eat, Eric could complain about her service attitude.
There were landmines on both sides; she could only choose the smaller one to step on.
With an expressionless face, she grabbed Eric’s jaw to turn his face back and forced the food from the spoon into his mouth.
“I apologize, patient, but it is my duty to ensure your physical and mental well-being. If you do not eat, your body will suffer, and I cannot allow that to happen.”
Tu Nan spoke without a shred of emotion as she shoved another large spoonful into his mouth.
Though she was forcing Eric, she believed it was excusable since it was entirely for the patient’s health.
Eric was livid, but since only his eyes could move, he could do nothing but stare at her with a murderous intensity, as if trying to kill her with his gaze.
Beside them, York let out a click of his tongue. It was hard to tell if he was disappointed or amused, but he watched them with a strange look in his eyes.
“You’d be in for it if you didn’t feed him,” Dwarf Peter said from the neighboring bed in a comical tone. “The angry Head Nurse would drag you off to solitary confinement. Hahahaha! Ridiculous York, trying to set you up on purpose.”
It seemed she had made the right gamble. Tu Nan raised an eyebrow but said nothing.
An annoyed expression crossed York’s face.
“Shut up, you damn midget. What nonsense are you spouting?”
He turned back to Tu Nan, his expression shifting to one of innocence. “Nurse, please don’t listen to his provocations. How could I ever treat you like that? I have always been the most gentle toward women.”
Tu Nan looked up at him. The smile on York’s face was so fake it carried a greasy, nauseating quality.
“Of course I wouldn’t doubt you,” she replied perfunctorily, the corners of her mouth twitching in a hollow smile.
Peter glared at her, looking quite irritated.
Knock, knock, knock.
There was a sudden knock at the ward door.
